Has any one had any experience with this plane nitroplanes Electric P-51. Videos, pics, etc.

WELL RECENTLY I BOUGHT THE NITROPLANES ARF 5-Ch AirField RC P-51 1450MM (57") Warbird RC Plane w/ Brushless Motor+ESC & Retracts (Silver) $199.00

IT CAN ACTUALLY BE A 6 CHANNEL IF YOU DO THE FLAP MOD. I GOT THE RECIEVER
Exceed RC 6-Ch 2.4Ghz Transmitter w/ Receiver (Full Version) for RC Helicopters & Airplanes. $44.95.

MY OVERALL FEELINGS IS THE AIRFRAME ITSELF (FUSELAGE AND WINGS ARE WELL BUILT AND STRONG. ALTHOUGH I HAD WISHED THE HORZONTAL AND VERTICAL.STABILIZER WERE A LITTLE MORE BEEFED UP. THE ENGINE AND 4 BLADED PROP HAS MEGA POWER
AND MATCHED THE AIRCRAFT OF THIS SIZE. THE CANOPY WAS NICE BUT THE PILOT WAS NOT GLUED AND HAD TO DO IT MYSELF. THE LEFT MAIN GEAR WHEEL WAS MISSING THE NUT.. JUST LITTLE THINGS THAT THE QA DEPT MISSED ON THIS ONE....

I FOUND THE SERVO'S TO BE A LITTLE ON THE LOW END SIDE. THEY CHATTER FROM TIME TO TIME EVEN WHEN PROPERLY SETUP. MY INTIAL INSPECTION SHOWED SOME HARDWARE MISSING AND ALSO THE PLASTIC CONNECTORS FOR THE CONTROL SURFACES WHERE FLIMSEY AT BEST AND THE CONTROL RODS UNDERSIZED FOR THIS AIRCRAFT. THE METAL HARDWARE WAS NOT AS STRONG AS I WOULD OF HOPED BUT I DECIIDED TO KEEP THIS PUPPY AS I WAS GOING TO CHANGE ALL THE HARDWARE COMPONENTS ANYWAY AND MOD IT INTO A STRONGER MORE STABLE FLYER ANYWAY!

EASE OF BUILD WAS FINE IF YOU KNEW WHAT YOU WERE DOING AS THE MANUAL WAS IFFY AT BEST AND BTW WAS MISSING FROM MY BOX WHEN RECIEVED. THE SERVO'S IF I CAN GET THEM TO WORK PROPERLY ARE NOT STRONG ENOUGH FOR THE MAIN WHEEL RETRACTS. I ALSO NOTED THAT THE STEERABLE TAIL WHEEL WAS SHORTER AND DIFFERENT THEN WHAT WAS PICTURED ON NITRO'S SITE. SET THAT ALL ASIDE AND YOU HAVE ONE NEAT FLYER THAT JUST NEEDS THE TLC TO GET IT READY FOR SOME HARDCORE MENUVERS WHILE FLYING.

THE RADIO I BOUGHT, I LIKE AS IT HAS GREAT FUNCTION AND I FEEL POSITIVE IT WILL WORK WELL. HOWEVER TO SET IT UP CAN BE A REAL NIGHTMARE FOR THE UNTRAINED IN RC CONTROLS WEEKEND FLYER.

THE SOFTWARE IS GOOD AND I FIND THAT WHILE SETTING UP THE CONTROLLER HAVE THE AIRCRAFT ON TO SEE WHAT YOUR RESULTS ARE DURING SETUP... BUT DO NOT INSTALL THE PROP IF YOU DO IT THIS WAY AS YOU WILL REGRET IT..... IT WILL FLY ACROSS THE ROOM WHEN SETTING UP THE THROTTLE.. SO BE CAREFUL. OR YOU PLANE WILL NEVER MAKE IT TO THE FEILD!

SOMEWHERE ON THIS FORUM IS INFO FOR MOD TO THE FLAPS AND ADDING TAILWHEEL RETRACT.. I CANNOT FIND IT ANYWHERE. SO WILL JUST FIGURE IT OUT AND DO IT BASED ON PASSED BUILDS.

HINTS FOR A STRONGER AIRCRAFT.

BEFORE PUTTING THE PLASTIC PARTS ON THE CONTROL SURFACES FOR THE ATTACHING OF CONTROL RODS, USE EPOXY AS A BASE ON THE STROFOAM ON BOTH SIDES. MAKE IT THIN...JUST COAT THE FOAM IN THE RECESSED SQUARE CUTOUT. ONCE DRIED THEN INSTALL THE PLASTIC PARTS. THIS WAY THEY WILL STAND UP TO LOADS WHILE FLYING. IF YOU LEAVE IT THE WAY IT IS, THEY WILL NOT LAST IN THE LONG RUN AND YOU WILL BE REPLACING THEM OR THE CONTROL SURFACES WHEN THEY BREAK THROUGH THE STYROFOAM. THE MAGNETFOR THE CANOPY SEEMS STRONG ENOUGH BUT MAKE SOME SORT OF LATCH FOR THE BACK TO INSURE THE CANOPY DOES NOT COME OFF JUST IN CASE. USE LOCTIGHT ON THE SCREWS. BUY EXTRA PROPS AND A SPINNER.

ONE GREAT THING MY FRIEND TOLD ME A LONG TIME AGO IS GET SOME CLEAR PLASTIC TAPE.. THE STUFF YOU USE TO CLOSE SHIPPING BOXES WITH. PUT ON THE LEADING EDGES OF THE WINGS, VERTICAL AND HORZONTAL STABILIZER LEADING EDGES AND A PIECE ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE WIND AT THE TIP[S. THIS WAY IF YOU SCRAP OR BUMB INTO FOD, IT WILL CAUSE LESS DAMAGE THEN WITHOUT IT. STYROFOAM CRACKS WITH IMPACT BUT WITH THE TAPE YOU MOSTLY END UP WITH A DING. BUT AT HIGH SPEED IMPACT.. KISS THE AICRAFT GOODBYE AND BE PREPARED FOR REPAIRS IF POSSIBLE.

ALL THIS SAID... I AM NOT IMPLYING THIS IS A BELOW GRADE A/C, IT IS A LOWER COST OPTION FOR THE BUDGET MINDED FLYER. REMEMBER IF YOU WANT TOP OF THE LINE STUFF BUY OR BUILD IT YOURSELF.. BUT I LIKE THE STYROFOAM AIRCRAFTS AND I LIKE WHAT NITROPLANES HAS DONE TO GET THEM TOO US. THEIR TECH SUPPORT IS GOOD AND THEY STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT.

IT'S JUST THAT FOR $199 DO NOT EXPECT TO GET A PRESINE RC WITH ALL THE TOP OF THE LINE COMPONENTS... YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR....BUT IT IS A GOOD RC TO FLY.. WOULD I BUY ONE AGAIN FROM THEM?...I'LL GET BACK TO YOU ON THAT!

I purchased the AirField RC P-51 1450MM (57") Radio Control Warbird on black Friday from Nitroplanes and overall I am very pleased.

The first segment of the video is the maiden flight with the 100% stock setup powered by a Turnigy 4S 36C battery. The plane was underpowered and is seen at full throttle for the entire short flight. Flaps were set for mid for takeoff and full for landing and were effective.

You will also see a reoccurring problem with the landing gear not fully deploying in this video. My theory is aerodynamic forces in flight on the gear doors are stopping the gear on its way down. The gear deploys strong and consistently in preflight testing in the pits with no signs of weakness. In later flights on this day I removed the gear doors and they performed perfectly with two subsequent flights.

With some good help with my fellow pilots at RCACF we tested several props on a meter and found that a two bladed 16X12 prop was a good match recording 39 amps and 585 watts at full throttle on the stock 50 amp ESC.

I was surprised to see how poorly the stock prop performed after seeing some other videos of the same plane performing better on the stock setup. Either way I ended up having a great day flying the plane with 6 flights with no other performance issues. I flew on the 4S 36C Turnigy battery with the timer set for 6 minutes and coming back with slightly more than 15 amps left on the battery.

I am pleased with the plane, it flys great and there are no surprises in the air. You may want upgrade the motor, ESC for better performance.

Hello,

I did the maiden flight tonight. Gear comes down just fine on the ground, does not seem to be any binding at all, but the right one will not deploy in flight.

Any ideas of what I could do?

BTW...how do you get the lights on the wingtips to light up?

What happens if I connect a regular battery pack to the receiver AND have the BEC connected to the throttle?
