Hi,

For those asking if the DLE-20 will fit, here's a few pictures of it on the Corsair ARF. I haven't cut the cowl yet but it looks like it won't take too much to fit up. I opted for a wrap around pitts muffler instead of the stock side exhaust obviously.

I'm confused from that last photo. Why two servos there? Also, what about the fuel tank? Where will that go? Please explain.

The two servos are throttle and choke. With gas you don't need as large of a fuel tank as glow so I'm putting a smaller one in (10 oz) and mounting it farther back over the CG location.

Okay, that makes sense. I guess the choke can also serve as a means to kill the engine, so you wouldn't need a kill switch.

Good point. Hadn't thought of that actually. I was planning on using the RCEXL opto kill switch with BEC though so I can get away with a single pack for control and ignition. I already bought it so I'll probably stick with that and just use the extra channel for it. Although your idea would keep me from having to Y harness the ailerons (using a DX8).

I just pushed the button on one of these, using a $50 off promo code and they gave me free shipping, too! That really helped, and was the tipping point for me. At first I thought it just cost too much, but the wooden construction was very appealing and finally won out! I will be installing either a Magnum .91 FS, Evolution 1.00, or a Super Tigre .90 (leaning towards the .91 FS). Time to see if my Corsair stuff will fit on this bird.

Question 1: Should I stick to Monocote if I go with the .91FS, or do you think it could handle fiberglass finishing and a couple drop tanks? No doubts on power with the other 2 engine choices.

Question 2: Is anyone close to actually flying this bird?!? I can't wait for a flight report.

Oh, one more thing... QUICK! Someone make an F2G conversion kit!! [X(]

That all depends on how the fiberglassing is done. I've seen many TF Corsairs that were 'glassed and painted that ended up weighing over 12 lbs. But it KNOW that if done correctly: 'glassing and painting a model will only add a minimal amount of weight. I'm thinking a 10 lb 'glassed and painted model is within reason. I base my statement on the fact that I was able to refinish a Hangar 9 Corsair, and it ended up weighing only 8 1/2 lbs (but it is electric powered, so I went especially light on the 'glass). If so, the .91 should power it nicely. I personally have a 9 1/4 lb Top Flite Corsair (3 gear retracts, dual Vortac bomb drops) that flies nicely with a Saito .82.

CorsairJock, you are a great help! I was hoping you would chime in, and now my confidence in the .91 is high. The fuel economy of the four stroke engine doesn't hurt these days, either! Thanks much.

Hi Firepower, if you mount that magnum 91, will you mount it inverted, side or 45deg position?. I'm thinking of the magnum 91 too for the TF 60 corsair, but not sure which position to use. I would like to mount it inverted , but i'm worried about fuel flowing into the carb when engine is off. If mounting on the side or 45deg, you'll see the rocker head stick out quite a bit, no?

I will have to check and see if it will stick out. I would think that since the cowl is round, you could mount the engine pretty much any way you like. With that being said, I would like to mount my .91 mostly upright if I can keep it fully enclosed. If the valve cover has to stick out, I will stick with the recommended orientation. My H9 P-47 has a Saito 100 mostly inverted, with the carb way under the fuel tank. No real problems. If you are really worried, you can loop your fuel line so that the high point of the loop is higher than your fuel tank. I have done it with 3M wire clips attached to the firewall- very clean install. That will reduce the chance of a fuel siphon (sp?)

I have been thinking more and more about a gas engine. One thing I noticed about my H9 Corsair (2 stroke glow) is that my pylons and drop tanks/bombs get gooped up severely due to their proximity to the exhaust, and I don't exactly enjoy cleaning them all the time. Not exactly looking forward to that with the Top Flite ARF. However, gas engines present another problem: the spark plug hanging way out and huge mufflers/exhaust stacks. Yuk! [:@] I loathe that alot more than a mere valve cover sticking out, or the goop. So until I find one that will fit almost if not entirely inside the cowl, I guess I will stick with the glow.

My TF Corsair ARF will also have 3 gear retracting with at least some gear doors operational... more on this soon. [8D]

One other thing I would like to say: I think I will be happier with the .91 FS because it will fly more like an actual plane, i.e. need a takeoff roll instead of a rocket-like liftoff. Overpowered airplanes are not challenging for me to fly at all- it is like playing a video game of a guided missile. I enjoy the challenge of mastering the subtle nuances of R/C flying, scale, SMOOTH aerobatics, realistic touch & goes. One of the most enjoyable airplanes I've ever had was a GWS Zero with stock motor/gearbox and retracts. It had just enough power to climb about 15-20 degrees max, but I could easily do loops, stall turns, tailslides, point rolls... just had to manage the energy. I also at the time had a modded Stryker, high powered glow warbirds and a couple ducted fans that could burn up the sky whenever I liked, but that trusty Zero gave me more satisfaction after each sortie than anything else at the time. I am hoping for a similar feeling with this Corsair!

Just my opinion...

p.s. I finally did go geared brushless on the Zero, but I still kept the throttle back. heh heh

Hi Bob,

It's a JTEC compact version. I got it from Tower (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXBFYT&P=ML). There are a few other styles for the DLE20 too you can find on JTEC's web site. ValleyView RC has one too but it was too long for the flush firewall on the Corsair so I had to return it.

Bought a set of Sierra retracts for this plane. These are far better than Robart 615's.
Daryll has modified the strut length so that they fit this kit.

No, not yet. Sorry. I haven't been able to work on it much the past few weeks. I got the tail section done but haven't started on the cowl yet. I'll post pictures when I do though. I might have time this weekend.

As for the mount, I'm not sure what it is because I had it laying around. I think it was one that came with the Hangar 9 60 size Spitfire ARF but not 100% sure. DLE suggests using the Dubro vib. dampening mount but I ran the engine through a few tanks on a test stand and it was fairly smooth. So, I cheaped out and used what I had already. I had a DLE-30 on another plane before and it was fine without dampening.

Got the cowl done with the DLE-20 so here's a few pictures.

On the alternate retract question - I'm going to give the E-Flite rotating retracts a try. They are for .46 size but the specs say up to 9.5lb plane. Have only dry fit them so far but It seems like they will be ok. I'm also going to use Robostruts for some suspension and better looks. We'll see..
