RE: HPI Mini Recon
Here is another video with the 3100kV Brushless Motor, but this time on Highest Motor Timing \last time was "Lowest"\. This was my first time driving on "full power" so I had some incidents:

The good news is that in the end of the day, I only managed to crack one of the rims, but noting to serious. Also one of the caps on one of the shock absorbers open so the oil spilled, but I have refiled it, at it is ok now.
I am also working on my visual mode, so hopefully soon I will show you the result.
@mercerbeef - cool, 10x for the link.

How important are the little springs that fit into the differentials and push out onto the axles/doglegs?
I lost one and don't want to spring (no pun intended) for the whole assembly kit for that single part.

RE: HPI Mini Recon
well stock they are not bad. The stock rims are questionable, but seeing I doubt she will be pushing it well past its limits it should be fine.
I actually broke the dumbest part on mine recently, and not from running it oddly. Fell off my desk and the piece that hold the front arm in that the bumper screws into broke off... Out of all the parts that are made in aluminum for the pro-pulse(majority work on recon) I'm shocked that little stupid part isn't, or that it isn't just part of the front bumper.
I'm tempted to just cut a piece of scrap aluminum to the size, and use a coat hanger wire to extend the hinge pins to the bumper.

Mine was missing the rear 2 straight out the box. Never even noticed it till I took it apart to clean it. You should be fine.

New shoes and body for the recon. This was our first attempt at airgun and bodywork. My son did the design. Great project to do together.

Where did you get that body and wheels/tires, if I can ask?

Wheels are Megetech/Megapro replacement stock, which are form/fit compatible. Available at RCHobby Explosion or a couple of good ebay sellers such as Mega-Pro.

How hot it too hot for the motor and battery? Motor is too hot to touch and the label is soft now. Battery is very warm. ESC is not warm at all.
Any ideas on what the trouble might be?

RE: HPI Mini Recon
So far my Mini Recon has been nothing but trouble. My motor has given out and I have striped a few gears ( all stock). HPI
was nice enough to replace the parts but as soon as I get one thing fixed another thing breaks.
The wheels are absolutely horrendous, and I have discovered a new problem.
When I apply full throttle from a stand still I
hear a loud clicking noise. I firstly suspected that it was the front diff, but after inspection, it turned out to be coming from the
back of vehicle. (My front diff is now locked). The back diff seems to be in good working condition, the mesh is perfect and the
everything else seems fine, this clicking is rather annoying.
Has anyone else had problems similar to mine?

this thing handles very well, tracks like crap right now but still handles like its on rails.

RE: HPI Mini Recon
Tripshot- get a pen and paper, start from page 1 of this thread and write down all the parts numbers for the Team Associated ( AE ) parts that will fit to improve the diffs, and anything else you may like. lol thats what I did. Just waiting for them to come in.

RE: HPI Mini Recon
Ran into the same problem, which was the root cause of my stripped gears too. The motor shaft had play in it due to the bearing being worn or damaged. HPIreplaced motor under warrant. Pull your motor and see if you can wiggle the shaft the pinion gear is on.

RE: HPI Mini Recon
I recently got my motor replaced also, as the shaft was sort of rattling which caused my spur gear to strip.
The mesh between my motor and spur is fine, I have an feeling the pinion gear on the end of the shaft and the other gear on the rear axle
may be skipping. I think that is what is causing the clicking. The differentials seem to be intact. ( I opened them and checked them).
I only hear the clicking when I go fast from standing still. The teeth are all still there. If i start off super super slow I can avoid the clicking.
Thanks seattle and mercer.
Quick question, RC18t rims will fit on the Recon tires and mount to the axles with no modification?

- yes, same single pin setup. ive had two rims crack both where really horrific accidents in temps less than 30F. using the megatech/ propulse rims.
