Hey guys just bought my savage flux hp about a week ago and I have a set of big joe tires on tech 5 rims just sitting collecting dust on my savage 4.6, my question is should I change to a smaller pinion gear? or do you guys think it would be ok with the stock gearing?

safely keep the motor around 160 esc around 140 and batts around 120 these are concervative #'s and so it's not the end of the world if you go above them by 10-15*....

RE: THE Official HPI Savage Flux-HP Thread
Hey guys, finally picked a Flux up. I actually got it a couple months ago, but due to a tight schedule and the weather, I still haven't gotten it out yet! But I find myself on vacation down here in SC, and my Flux came with me! I plan to get it out within the next couple days. I'm running a 6S setup, so it should rip pretty good. I'll let you all know how it goes!

Also the 40 series Bog joe tires, with cheyenne wheels are working out GREAT and I can wheelie forever! I swapped to the 18T pinion gear and i didn't notice any loss of speed/power so I was very happy with that.

I RETRACT this statement, worked great until i really bashed it hard. I've had a TON of problems running these heavy tires. Stay away from them unless you don;t bash hard or get ready to spend some $ buying replacement parts. For the Savage FLux specifically I absolutely HATE this wheel/tire combo.

RE: THE Official HPI Savage Flux-HP Thread
Hey guys. New to this thread here. Proud owner of an SAVAGE 2350. My main MODS are a 150A EZ RUN ESC designed for 6's but running 4's only hence the 2350 motor. Keeps my temps low and performs GREAT! also running on 8 shock setup since i like jumping high and land on hard dirt. I started reading around and just wanted to share with you guys know where to find a really great quality already painted body for this truck at even less than an unpainted body price. I found this guy on Ebay who sells these for around $35 shipped within the US! Believe me i bought one and It exceeded me spectations! Posting pics for you to see. LOL and I'm not working for him or anything just want more Savage owners to know. i also spray the inside of my bodies with Flex Seal to make them a lil more durable. Im running Trencher 3.8s on what I think are Tek5 rims. They are about the same diameter as Joes but are narrower. I think the proportions look good and I havent had issues with heat or breaking parts, yet. I dont know how hard I am on the truck, maybe a little conservative. Ive been running it in a dry river bed under the freeway which is like sand dunes in some areas and heavilly rutted with firm dirt in others. I can launch it off a burm down there and get pretty wild so I guess theyre not over stressing the drive train. I just remembered, I did shear a drive pin in the front driveline between the tranny and front diff. Thats been the only issue and I cant confirm if that was due to the tires or not.
Here are some photos for comparison to the stock tires.

Yah I just bought the Axial 8 spoke rims and the 40 series 3.8 Trencher tires. Problem is they weight MORE than the Heavy 23mm Cheyenne wheels and Big Joe tires. I figured they would weight less so now I have two sets of heavy tires. I'm going to try these out, adjust the shock oil weight and see what happens, If I break stuff again (i mean easily) then I may sell the truck or just buy stock tires again, I just hate small tires on a big ol Flux XL, looks stupid to me, but at this point i am running out of choices.

I just received my TCSCrawlers XL TVPs in the mail today and I couldn't wait to install them. So, Igrabbed a #2 Phillips, a 3.5mm Allen; sat on the floor and went at it. It probably took me all of 25 minutes to complete. Now Ifeel like I'm a member of the RC "priveledged elite" Ok, Ok, maybe I'm taking this too far. I am excited and can't wait to finish a body for it. I will get some quality photos of it outside when time permits. Until then, here's a very brief sample of the "build" that my little girl helped me with. When I say "helped"Ireally mean sat in my way and poked at the truck with a nut driver.
In photo's it's difficult to appreciate the size difference that the longer plates offer. If you ever get an opportunity to see a Savage XL in person, the approximately 2" makes a sizeable difference; especially when paired with the wide axle kit which mine has.

The basic ingredients are the TCS XL plates ($47.99) and a long HPIdogbone ($5.45). Shipped to my door it came out to $60.17. With those two pieces you will end up with a long, but narrowFlux. The HPI wide axle kit is something mine already had but Ibelieve that option costs $18 per pair; or another $36.
Additionally you can opt for a LCG ESC mounting plate plus hardware, which Iplan to do eventually. It's not terribly expensive and I believe those pieces add up to about $15-$20. TCS also has a package that allows you to use a Traxxas ESC hold-down instead of zip ties. That costs closer to $25-$30 for all the pieces, but it looks cleaner. The LCGplate puts the ESC right behind the motor and between the chassis plates in that "dead space" that the longer wheelbase creates. The stock location mounts it relatively high and potentially in harms way.
Check out Foxy's "Savage Census" thread for a cleaner photo of my truck as I will be posting there shortly.

RE: THE Official HPI Savage Flux-HP Thread
I just installed a Tekin RX8/T8 1550kv combo for my HP. I figure this motor on 6s should be like the stock setup on 4s but a bit stronger. It calculates to have about 2000 RPM higher maximum RPM. I found the 6s to be fun but not as useful and am going to try to get this somewhere between where the stock HP feels on 4s and 6s.
I'm charging now and will se what this setup is like. 47/21 gearing. I have a high speed idler gear on hand.

RE: THE Official HPI Savage Flux-HP Thread
The 1550 on 6s has a lot of torque but it has nothing on top. It goes the same speed as it did with the stock setup on 4s. I would say its better than the 4s stock setup but it comes at the cost of not having a high speed option.
The run time doubled and after draining a full set of packs after hard driving on the street and the temperature was 105 F. I am geared 47/21, as tall as I can go. In order to go taller and run a plastic spur gear I need to install the high speed idler. I don't feel like I can gear it a lot more despite the encouraging lower temperatures, though.

RE: THE Official HPI Savage Flux-HP Thread
Why are you not running the stock flux hp 44t steel spur gear?
This will give you a lot more top end, that motor should have no bother pulling stock flux gearing!

I prefer to run a plastic spur gear. This gives me the idea to test taller ratios with the 44/25 to see if its worthwhile.

Have you guys done the wheel mod, with drilling a hole in the hub and throwing a pin in it to stop the hubs from stripping or the wheel nuts coming off? The wheel nuts on my HP keep falling off all the time
