I have finally made some progress on the plane. It's been just too busy at work and I have been traveling a lot. I got some time last weekend to apply the decals from Aeorloft and they are great!

It took some effort as they don't stick very well below 75 degrees, but with the help of a hair dryer I was able to get them on. Here are a few photos:

Here's the pilot for now. I know he's not the right "era", but he looks so cool

One last shot of the tail and fuze for you and it's on to the wings. Sorry about the mess around the plane, but my workspace is very small. I will have a larger shop once my daughter heads off to college next year

Darren,

Nice to hear that

I see all the nice neat work shop photos on the site and get concerned. First time using the dry rub decals and had some issues until I figure out it was too cold. Now they are easy and look great. I will use them again for sure. Already planning the next project (Sist 190A)

Those kits won't be in until August. Should give me plenty of time to assemble everythign I need. I have the cockpit from Inzpan, wheels, gear and will order the decals soon. Going with "Blue 11" .... I think.

Still have a ton of weathering and detail work to do, but it's getting closer. I also still have to get the exhaust outside the cowl. I am just going with a straight pipe and no muffler and I think the exit should be pretty close to scale. Need a few weeks to let the paint dry before I gas it up so it's properly cured too. So far so good

Ok got the plane together for some pre-clear coat photos. I just have to get the weathering finished and clear coat and she's ready to fly.

Is your engine thrustline in the right place? The centerline of the crankshaft looks a bit low in relation to the full scale Jug.

I think it's just because I don't have the cowl screwed down and it's just sitting on the plane. It's right on when it's firmly attached. Still have to put in the chin scoup too.

Thanks! so MUCH !!!

He was just sitting around since I lost my D-7 in a mid air last season. I will pull him out as soon as the "replacement" arrives.

He is a nasty looking old fart though

He looks much better in a D-7 or Dr-1 for sure.

Finally got this plane in the air last weekend. It flew great !!!!

Took off easily with only about 1/2 throttle. Kept the gear down and tested the flaps and they worked well with almost zero input from the elevator needed.

I flew around at less that half throttle all the flight and landed after 6 minutes. Checked the batteries and still had 70% left. Looks like I should be able to get about 12 minutes at moderate throttle settings and 10 at high speeds. Not sure that airframe will withstand full throttle

Landing was easy and slow. Love how this plane flys!!!!!

Setup:

Motor: Rotomax 50 cc (5300 watts / 5.5 HP)
ESC: Turnagy 200 amp
Battery: 2 x 6S 8000 mah Zippy 30c packs (in series)
Prop: 24-12
Gear: Sierra

Will try and get some this weekend. I had a flame out of my ESC last flight and did an emergency landing without a problem. Installed a Castle 160 now with a 24-12 prop getting 118 amps at full throttle. Had some issues with the batteries not providing enough voltage, but limited throttle and now it's great. Way too much power but nice : )

Trying to get back into the air with all my planes. A combo of a new job and no vehicle large enough caused me to resort to park flyers for a while. I also started back up on my build of my Aerotech P-51D

Need to find a new car or get a trailer to haul my planes around. I am lucky to have a good buddy that lets me tag along with him and use his trailer.

Should get some more video and photos this weekend as we are all going to a big field to fly.

Jeff
