Default Enya 90-4C Limited Reproduction

Hi,

I was just looking at Enya's website and seen that they have reproduced their 90-4C in limited quantities.

http://www.enya-engine.com/90-4CTN.html

It's not cheap though at approx US$500 plus shipping.

Cool, that is a great engine for its displacement size range.
I used one years ago in a Japanese Zero fighter scale plane, and it powered the plane really well.

I would have preferred that they re-introduce their 80-4C. The 90-4C is built in the small 1.20 casting, IIRC. That makes it one of, if not the heaviest, four-stroke .90 on the market. Betcha they had a pile of parts left over because of previous poor sales of the original due to its excessive weight and size.

Still, it is an Enya. And that says a lot. All good.

I have a Enya 90 ( type T N ) and a 80 - 4 cycle engine I will be selling for the family of a late friend . They are both in the orig. box and in EXC. NEW condition . I am sure they are the older production engines but I was wondering how I can tell when they were produced ? Not sure when Enya stopped production and when they started the new reproductions . Can anyone give me some advice ?
The engines look BRAND SPANKING sitting in the box as if never taken out or unwrapped !!
Because of his collecting I am sure that the engines are the older orig. Enya stock !

Not sure what a fair price would be if they are Original compared to the new Reproduction ??

Thanks for the help.

The Enya 4 stroke engines are built strong and heavy as they can turn higher RPMs than the other brand engines can. To do so requires a strong front end and crankcase to withstand the stresses. In the past engine reivews by Clarence Lee and Dave Guierke they mentioned it too. so what you might think it too heavy is actually a good thing and not really a problem. Some other more light weight engine brands may show RPMs in a similar range, but the engines can't really hold those high RPMs for very long without parts failure. In the past some model engine companies made high speed videos of their engines turning high RPMs and they were quite surprised as to how much movement there was with the engine, especially the front end and crankshaft. That is why you see the more modern high performance engines having fairly robust crankcases on them. Early on Enya beat everyone else to market with their first 1.20 four stroke engine. It was a bored and stroked version of the .90 engine. Later they improved on it with the 1.20R series.

I believe the max rpm for the 60-4C, 80-4C, and 90-4C is 13,000rpm. Try spinning an OS, TT, or Magnum that fast and see how long it lasts. Hell, the 46-4CD has a 14,000rpm max rpm. That's some premium quality toughness if you ask me.

My 60-4C has seen just shy of 12,000rpm although I've been propping it for around 10,000rpm. It sounds pretty sweet revved up.

The Enya 90 and 1.20 are great engines. Heavy, yes, not unlike the Rossi; built to last as well as being outstanding performers.

You tell them, Earl. Most folks do not understand what you have described in your previous paragraph. What you say actually applies to most Enya engines, two or four stroke. I fit my Enya 40 & 45 CX with a 10x6 prop, tune it as lean as I dare and then let go do its thing. Others, some with the same model engine, watch in amazement as the aluminum piston and chromed liner "do their thing", when ran leaner than an ABC engine would be run.

Yeah, Enyas will swing big props, if that is what you need. But if you want to really see them wail, let them rev up.

I'm all for a heavy duty front end construction.

People don't realize that props are usually oscillating.

I saw a high speed video of a model engine once and the front end was whipsawing up and down like crazy at peak RPMs. That motion robs the engine of power and RPMs and stresses the parts quite a bit too.  Some of the engines with the bolt on front end, that isn't very robust,  have the problem of where it will actually have enough movement to wear the gasket out from the rubbing action.

I'm not totally sure here so correct me otherwise but I think the Enya R-1.20 was the big game until the YS 1.20 NC came along. I have an R-1.20 and he is a great performer.

Yes that is correct, the Enya 1.20R was the ultimate four stroke engine to have for pattern flying at the time, until it got supplanted by the YS 1.20 engine.  The OS 1.20 supercharged engine might have outdone it too, but it was so expensive that very few people used it.

Here is a magazine review of the old Enya 90-4C engine.  http://sceptreflight.net/Model%20Eng...20%281%29.html

here is another review of the Enya 90-4C engine too.  http://sceptreflight.net/Model%20Eng...20%282%29.html

At that time Peter Chinn was quite impressed with the engine.

Years ago when the AMA decided to follow suit with the FAI, they allowed 1.20 size four stroke engines to compete with the .61 two stroke engines, it caught everyone unprepared as they thought the .91 size four stroke was to be the engine chosen. But Enya simply bored and stroked their .90 engine and viola they had a 1.20 four stroke long before anyone else did. That Enya 1.20 engine was quite popular too. Later Enya came out with the 1.20R engine as a complete redesign and it was the engine to use for quite a while too.

I run my engines with 5% nitro glow fuel. But you might do better with 10% or 15% nitro glow fuel. The extra nitromethane in the fuel helps it to idle a little lower and better.

Got a pair of the enya 90-4C for a Handley Page type 0/400 WWI bomber which I am going to build. Need a pair of reliable 4 strokies for such a plane as it will take about a year or 2 to finish the build.
