RE: Viper Jet 2M Pointers/ tips.
My Cheetah is more foward, the tail pipe is a little inside the tail conne...On my first start, i burned the paint on the tail cone...Don't do that... At idle it's OK but at full throttle it's something else....
I now added BVM ceramic heat protective coating inside tail cone, 4 coats, i did not started it yet but should be better...

Good to know. I've moved mine in about 20mm... I got my CG right now but yes I'm concerned about burning the cone...I put a layer of heat foil on it... I'll see what it does on first start. I guess worst case I can just cut 20mm off the end of it. :-)

For those interested. Here is my SM 2M Viperjet with a standard Jet cat 80 flown off grass.
Once up and away there is no problem with the power.

RE: Viper Jet 2M Pointers/ tips.
Hi Rich,
Doing great, I've got it installed and it works great. Thanks for everything. Drilling and tapping the mounting pin was quite an experience...LOL
Waiting for a little warmer weather to get some paint on the plane. So hope to fly it before summer.
(Yikes) I'm still struggling with the pipe installation. I'm thinking now I'll shorten the tail cone about 1/2" to provide some clearancearound the pipe. Then I'll cut the pipe to length - again... :-(
Scott,
Jet Tronicsvalves, Double Action valves for LG and doors +proportional Brake valve.
I'm also using a Tams Fail Safe (will be mounted next to the air valves), and Jet Tronics Door Sequencer.
FYI: I've 'lowered' my two equipment trays in the fuse to allow the cockpit tub more clearance on the bottom. My RX and Door Sequencer will be placed on the front tray.
I'm not going to use the rear cockpit because 1. I don't want to deal with it (and the extra weight),2. I'm installing my smoke tank / pump where the rear cockpit would be placed.
Not scale, but I'm not really a scale guy anyway.

RE: Viper Jet 2M Pointers/ tips.
Hi all, have watched this thread for a while and thought i would share some photos of my build.
I have finished it and had a successful maiden flight. Could not have expected better. Wish could have gotten more flights on it but we had a pretty good cross wind most of the day and could only get in one flight. I have made most of the recomendations made on this thread and some of my own.
I installed a P-120 and made my own custom smoke tank. I was a little disturbed at the final weight @ 28 lbs dry, but the way it flies quickly put me at ease.Cg @ 12.5 mm and no extra weight to balance.
Flew it around only at half throttle and the stalls were predictable and mild with no flaps and with approach flaps.Recomended throws and 35% expo, no elevator mix with the flaps.
Regards all
Bob

Hi Bob,
Congratulations on the maiden. Much nicer to fly than the f-16 I'll bet.
Hope to have mine done before summer, we'll have to get some flying in.
Best regards, Jim

Hey all,
Don't like asking "stupid questions" .. but since my brain has gone to mush in the last 20 minutes, I need to ask:
Should I measure the deflection of the flaps from the side closest to the fuselage? or closest to the aileron? or the middle?
Thanks in advance,
Rob

Hi guys.
So what is the latest regarding CofG position, is the manual's 25mm fwd of wing spar still the go. Btw, is that from the centre of the spar tube or from the front edge of the tube.

Ok, RTBF! (abbreviation for read the bloody forum). So 12.5mm forward from spar centreline should do it.
One last thing on that topic is that the c.g. should always be computed with unusable fuel on board, I.e. the quantity that you will always land with. Personally, I never land with less than 1/4 remaining in main tank+uat full, so that is what I will do my balance check at. As this a/c has tanks fwd of c.g., the c.g will move aft during flight with burn off. So ironically, having full fuel at takeoff, may make it difficult to rotate the nose, as the c.g. will be further forward. probably pays to check c.g. at the full and empty configurations.
I have just about completed the build of my VJ 2m, its been an enjoyable experience. We just had a beautiful baby boy enter the world and so took leave for a month to help out. This gave me some time to get stuck into the project as well.
I did a few different things as well. I have installed a new JetCat 100RX, light engine. I also decided to leave out the second smaller fuel tank. Theory is, carrying extra weight/fuel increases burn, so reduce weight= less fuel required. Let you know how we go! Will post some pics shortly.
Cheers

How much weight does a external painted versus a painted in the mould add to the weight of the plane ? What would the difference be ?

I dont believe i have seen any exact numbers on the difference in weight, but that does not seem to matter anymore since Xtreme jets only offers painted out of the mould versions now.
Atleast on the web sites that i have seen.

On the extreme site it still lists ..Painted in the mould and the next option is professional external painted . The 2 options still are available .
I see so many coments on get the painted in the mould plane , but know one can say how much weight does paint add ?

Congrats Rowdy. Nice flying, but you may want to run a little more flap on take off ( Less unstick ping when you rotate )
