Default spad seaplane???

I was thinking of scaling down BenJammin's Snowmaster to a 48" span and keeping the total weight under 3 pounds. Power would be an OS .25fp or .25la. I was wondering what other builders experiences have been with this plane. How well did it fly? How well did it take off from water? Were there any pitch/trim problems with the pod mounted engine? Thanks.

there have been 3 or 4 built and no bad reports so far, they've been flown of snow, water and wet grass. just remember flying off water you need a litle extra grunt to get unstuck.

Hello!

Ok, so I'm posting this many years after this post but I'm hoping that you will be able to help me here.

I am building the Snowmaster and am currently working on the wing mount. What the plans fail to mention is how tail heavy this thing is! I'm curious, did you have this issue and how much weight did you end up using in the nose?

Thanks!

Just like any other Spad get it assembled enough to be able to check the CG with most of the gear still movable ( RX, RX Batt, & servos )
Slide things around till You get the CG close, error on the, a little nose heavy side for the first flights.
Use MrCleans CG sling with the SnowMaster upside down in the sling to find the CG.
Also the engine will need some up thrust to counter the drag of the wing & fuselage.
Good luck.

2. PLans for the SnowMaster?

I had no CG problems with my Snowmaster. Although I did go with a conventional tail which cut off some weight.
