I am getting back into hobby and decided to dive right into electrics rather then going the glow fuel route.... I have a Great Planes PT-60 kit and would appreciate any advice on converting this kit to electric.....

Great choice. The PT-60 is a great large, but not giant, trainer. i used a Rimfire 55 and a 5.0 mAh LiPo pack to power it. Space was tight for the ESC so I mounted a GPSilver Series 60A ESCunderneath the nose. You will have to use a different motor mount and buy a nose wheel mounting bracket.

There are a lot of choices for an electric motor now. You could use the Turnigy easy match 60 sized motor from Hobby King, and EMP from Leaders, if they ever come back in stock at Hobbypartz, Monster power 60, Tacon 60. The Proton ESC from Hobbypartz has worked very well for me.

I am using a 6s 5000mah GensAce battery from Hobbypartz. I picked it up on sale for $79.99.

Hi guys I am new to r/c and electric(very experienced in gas controline and scratch building though) . Have been flying a Supercub electric foamie, and with the help of my flight simulator, I think am doing ok. I recently bought a PT-60 kit which want to build electric. I am almost done with the wood part. Could you elaborate more and post more pictures of the conversion process? In other word, althoug what you have posted so far, may seem good to a beginner, I'm worse than that. I'm
completly blind as far as electrics is concerned. Please help me see the light. Thank you.

Ahhhhh, where to start? You will need to have the batteries, motor, ESC on hand.

You will need to make a hatch so you can swap the batteries without taking off the wing.

Here are some more pictures of my conversion. I went with the stand offs because I could not find a mount that was the right length.

You may need to make new landing gear. I had to increase mine to clear the 18X6 prop. I used 5/32 piano wire and just used the stock gear as a template and made the gear 2 inches longer. It also help for ground clearance when I have a glider strapped on.

Thanks guys: Did you keep the same motor angle(downwards) as in the glow engine design? Also please tell me which equipment you used.

all three of the PT (20, 40 & 60) series aircraft have the correct thrust angle built into the firewall installation. You can not and do not want to change it. It works fine with an adequate electric motor. Mine is rated at about 1100 watts which seems quite adequate to the job.
