CP i was being conservitive on the number. 25,000 with the pylon prop will get you to 150. I only mentioned that carb because its the only one to fit and still be able to use a prop. A venturi would be great and give even bigger gains over the little cv carb

That thing does get expensive by the time you machine the head down and add all those parts! I was thinking there was someone here whose "Engine Guy" was getting close to those #'s out of a LA .15? [8D] Todd

Ah... putting a .10 on it is idiotic, extremely! Id had a "light" plastic top for a reason... and that reason should be obvious. How long a flight would it be on a .10 with a 2oz tank? What size radio will it have; it's got to be very small? It should lightened by the frame reworking and a few modern tricks, but give a chance, use a real TeeDee, or the TT .074.
No, just fiberglass it up and hang a giant .15 on with, maybe you can put the servos and the battery in the other end of fuse with an old cell phone!

LA 10/15 engines work very well in these planes. If you built one per the planes and used only two channel and only servos big enough to fly the plane you will still be over 25-27 ounces. yes it would fly but not very good.

Yes this is your opinion but you shouldnt call it Idiotic ok because you just called everyone an idiot who has ever put a bigger engine on the plane.

The ASP .12 from Hobbypartz.
There is an old 1/2A thread called "The ASP .12 Thread" that shows how to get one of these engines up to 130 mph.
The engine I'm working with now isn't as strong as the one in that thread, but it still turns a 5x5 prop well enough to pull a speed plane 120 mph.
There must have been hundreds, of this series of warbird [1/12th scale] that were used for old rules AMA RC Combat with .15 engines and there were most definitely a lot of "idiots" having a tremendous amount of fun doing that..me included...!
They fly very well with .15s. I contact cemented aluminum scuff plates in a few key areas on the underside of my planes and used to belly land them on asphalt at some fields. The stock tail feathers need to be made from 3/16" balsa sheet and it helps to fiberglass the middle 4 inches of the wing's belly.

Thanks also for your reassuring post, combatpigg. Glad to know I am just as much of an idiot as an expert like you. I built up one HOB P-51 with 4 channel (3 mini, 1 micro servo), full landing gear, and a GP.10. It took off, flew, and landed like a Mustang. Eventually swapped in a GP .15 and it still took off, flew, and landed like a Mustang, but was a WHOLE LOT MORE FUN. A 3 oz tank can be crammed in there too. Fine little kits. Almost have the itch to go dig out that FW190 I started years ago and never finished...

Eons ago I built the ME 109 and FW 190 kits. Yes, they have molded plastic top fuselage and no, the plans aren't really complete enough to build off of (no wing ribs, the upper fuse was plastic and therefore no profiles for formers etc). Although if properly motivated, you could use the plans as a guide and 'ad lib" the missing bits. The plans, which I oddly enough I still have, are for assembling the kit and are a nicely done feature. Mine were flown with TD-09's, one of which I still have, but both planes are long since history (one is gone forever in the ocean, the other just faded away somewhere down the line). Shame really, I remember paying about $29 for a kit if memory serves me, now they are about $70. Sheesh, I sure wish I bough a lot more kits of all kinds back then when they were cheap and available.
The planes were fun to build, great to fly even with the chunky depleted uranium servos and solid lead reciever batteries I used back then. The TD-09 pulled along no problems, I can't say what the top speed was or prop RPM or anything like that, I didn't care for that kind of information back then and I don't really care now. They flew "scale enough" for me and at the end of the day that's what matters. I would sure like to build another today with all the modern micro gizmos and throw my dusty .09 up front. But alas, the budget is not supporting a $70 kit right now.
