Wow!! A 1/5 scale HPI BAJA with a 50cc BZM was radared at 105 mph setting a unoffical record for largescale. The video is on HPI BAJA forum under engine section if you want to take a look .

The 1/5 scales are closing the gap in speed between them and the 1/8 scale.

Wrong Johnny 1/8 scale onroad cars have always been faster that their 1/5 scale big brothers. Also a nitro 1/8 scale has set a speed record of 120mph no 1/5 scale has come close to that yet. This ISC official record of 120mph was set by Mark Davidson. The electrics are king for right now.

Now if Maxit gets the right custom gearing for his Baja and maintains traction he should hit 120mph with his Baja. I believe he has a 50cc BZM that motor should be strong enough to pull the tallest gearing possible.

around 14. the BZM has better porting, so it will support a broader powerband. look at some pics of the ports, youll see what i mean.

Ahh, Got to 100 is at 103 MPH for the last 2 years with a 27cc, and I'm getting closer too. Still impressive for the HPI thou, imagine if someone on Gods green earth made this motor BZM, or a twin motor for an FG, try to imagine that with all the gearing possibilities, lol. Notice he did it with FG style onroad tires too. Right motor, right gearing, you'll get there. Great job!!!!!!!

With special gearing, just about any 1/5 scale can hit 100mph. A 1/5 scale quarter mile is 264 feet. I'll be impressed to see someone hit 100mph inTHAT distance.

Im extremely impressed with this, for years this is the route i would have liked to go with my FG baja but seeing as ive yet to see a conversion for it, Ive never made the attempt congrats to the owner of the this car. Im sure there still plenty of speed left in that HPI baja, at 50CC is there really such thing as over gearing!? I dout it
My personal best is 92MPH with my FG baja with a ZEN 28.5 TS bottom. This 50CC hpi baja blows the doors off my FG baja........but i still refuse to get another HPI baja. FG CONVERSION WHERE ARE YOU

MiamizFinest would a FG 4wd onroad be a good car for a 1/5 scale land speed record ?? Or do you think a 2wd drive FG onroad would be better??

If it has the right modified motor sure it could hit 100mph. But we are talking about landspeed record attemps. You might be able to do that with a 1/5 scale in that short of a distance if it had the right tires , maybe a 2speed and a highly modified motor.

Wow, very impressive. Even more so than my 103 but I guess thats what we're here for. To make things faster and better. I've been out of the hobby for a little over a year and been trying to get back into it but been busy with family and work. I'll eventually get back into it and work on something special but until then, keep up those speeds. Helps me have something to shoot for.

Best of luck Got to 100!! You Miami cats are all fast especially you. You have set a record with a motor half their size. If you were to go inlijne twin or Big Block I can only imagine what kind of speeds you can attain.

What gears are you guys using for this? I raced FG cars way back when and remember Frank Killiam switching the pionion with the spur on his FG (easy to do on FGs). Not sure what speed he hit. Great work on the speeds gentlemen. Love the 5th scales!

I met Frank at the 2009 ISC speed run and he was running his gears backwards which as you said, its easy to do on the FG but I dont think it worked out for him. Regardless of the gearing youre running, you need a motor that can pull all that gearing. I run custom gearing but not spurs as pinions.
