RE: Gee Bee R3 30cc
the video is up on my utube channel....bigwes1962....flew good with no trimming needed.landed a little rough my pilot slowed down a little to much and thought it would cruise right on buy. it slowed down well.flight was at 1/2 throttle or less and it was running a little rich but still has VERY GOOD vertical...flew again on sunday with cg at 80mm and did a lot better it would let the nose point down to settle in to land......YEEHAA

BOYOBOYOBOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got mine "done", fired the engine (DLE 30). When I checked the CG is when the roof fell in on me. It is 175mm behind the leading edge. I hate adding weight, so I guess I'll move the elevator servos as far forward as practical, then add lbs. This is so frustrating. Everything was going so well up to that point. I guess you guys that added the 50cc motors were right. Did anyone weigh theirs? Dale

I ran into the same problem with mine (also have a DLE 30). Have added a lot of weight to the front in an attempt to get it balanced.

RE: Gee Bee R3 30cc
I get the impression that GMP is not going to be around for long. It is sad when you call a business and all you get is an answering machine. I have left messages regarding the wheel pants but have not received a response. When I first got my Gee Bee some of the parts were missing and it took about a month to get them.I was told by Gerry that they had been send, when after two weeks of not getting them I called and he assured me that they had been shipped. He then said that he would send them again and after another week still no parts. He then blamed it on the mail and UPS loosing some of his packages. (how often does that happen?) After another week I got the parts. With that type of customer support I doubt that his business will survive.

Yeah thats the problem with these "mom and pop" places that show up. They dont have replacement parts for the planes they offer. They pop up, sell people planes, make promises they can't keep, then dissapear. That why I only deal with companies that have been in business for at least 5 years.
Its just sad![]

RE: Gee Bee R3 30cc
Not to start a rivalry on my own thread but I don’t agree with your analogy of GMP. I have been in this industry now going on 35 years. I am a sponsored pilot for many manufactures so it would be fair to say that I sometimes get more of an inside look than the average consumer.
I have never met Gerry face to face but I have spent numerous hours on the phone with him getting his ideas and forecast as to what he wants to do with GMP as well as his inventory, operations, and manufacturing.
In my most humble opinion I believe Gerry is one of the most aggressive innovators I have had the privilege of discussing new products with. Anyone can become a hobby product reseller but if you want to bring new product lines into this market it is riddled with opposition.
I know this from experience as I have 8 months invested in bringing in the industry’s first ARF Flying Machine and I am only referencing building and signing off on a prototype.
The worst thing that could ever happen to us as a hobby community is not having those little guys out there putting their reputations and money on the line to do something different.
I am not at liberty to discuss Gerry’s plans or new designs at this time but I can tell you that he has some amazing surprises in store. This guy is constantly on the phone resolving issues to get his containers over here and until you have a few years of constant business flow it is a daily grind of chasing these problems.
If anyone here knows me or has seen my videos or post you know that I do not promote manufactures for income. This is a hobby for me so I get to pick and choose who or what I decide to represent. Not that my opinion has much value but I do give my results, good or bad.
I for one have every intention of supporting Gerry and his continued growth and I can assure you if you are having a problem and send him an e-mail that you will get results. I too realize in today’s world that anything that might appear to be less than super-efficient always has the connotation of a mom and pop organization. This is just not the case here.
I know every single manufacture, reseller, or hobby shop has its share of negative comments on the internet. It’s just the nature of the beast but if we get behind the new guys (to a point) I think you will find that GMP is going to give you a real surprise.
That’s my opinion. I hope everyone will take my message in the spirit it is given.

Condor,
Well done
Last year at Toledo we bough a couple of his 50cc R3's from GMP. Yes, there were some issues but in the month's that followed,Gerry made things right. I most agreed with you as this hobby will suffer if these "little guys" as you say stop bringing new products and ideas to market. We'll all loose if we'd have to rely only on the Hobbico's or the Horrizons for innovation.

RE: Gee Bee R3 30cc
Thank you for the kind words fellas, Gerry is one of the few independents out there that has the guts to roll the dice financially to make something happen. The old saying (no guts no glory) really does apply here.
As far as the Gee Bees goes, I would certainly beef up the wheel pants with some carbon. Even the newer pants. I have the new Robart struts for the 50cc build and I am working on collecting all of the electronics to get her in the air. Once we get this one flying Gerry can make a final determination as to the Robarts (spring tension, length, ect) and make his final adjustments to offer them to the everyone.
I fiberglassed the engine box yesterday just as an additional precaution. I also wanted to give some feedback on the flying wires. My 30cc had a few problems keeping the wires attached. This is what I found out.
First of all, after getting the wires tight, I would find that every now and then one of the connectors would come loose or the wire would stretch out giving slack in the setup.
I went to my local hardware store and found some number 92 springs to install. These work so great. First of all the wires stay tight. Second, they keep the wires from stretching, and last, they even make a little noise in flight.
I defiantly like the flap setup on the 50cc. Can’t wait to see how it lands with these baby’s.

RE: Gee Bee R3 30cc
Well, I can't seem to catch a break. With the CG back at 175mm(with the DLE 30), I decided to pull my DLE 55 out of another plane and install it in the GeeBee. I also moved the elev. servos forward to above the wing tube. Guess what-the CG is now 135mm behind the LE.
How much weight did you guys have to add to get it to 80mm? At 100mm, was it a handful to fly?
It looks like 80mm is 20% if my calculations are right. 30% would be 114mm.

I don't know how much weight I added but it was about 1/4 of a led diving weight. I have the 3w 55 on mine but the servos for the elevator are installed in the rear.

RE: Gee Bee R3 30cc
My gripes about GMP has to do with the lousy customer support.I like my Gee Bee but the landing gear wire and wheel pants are a joke.If Gerry is to sell this plane and be able to stand behind it he should have looked at the landing gear set up. It is a real joke and something that should have been beefed up before this ARF hit the market. I consider myself a good flyer and have been in this hobby for over forty years and have seen some bad ARF's and some very good ones.I would rate this Gee BEE in the middle of the pack.I have spoke with Gerry when I was thinking about getting this plane and I was told that he had replacement parts and that Robart was about to come out with new retracts. Well I have spoken with Robart and they are working on the retracts for the larger Gee BEE but not for the 30cc model. So for now I am going to set My Gee Bee aside and fly my other planes that dont have landing gear problems.

RE: Gee Bee R3 30cc
i added 187gr. of weight in the nose.i also have 2 3000mah 2cell lipo right behind the front firewall. .the elevator servos are in the same place as designed. rudder servo i built a plywood servo tray behind the ele. servos.mine did fly ok at 100mm but you had to push the nose down to land. alittle down stick and no problem. now at 85mm it does a little better at coming in to land. mine also has a dle 55.........
