I've made many starts trying this out and there are no problem what I can se. Might be more aggressive on the glowplug if doing a hot start. I switched from rossi plugs to McCoy which use a much thicker glow wire. Seem to work well, time will tell I guess

Will the plug facing downwards require you to start the airplane inverted? I know most turbines need the plug toward the top in order to start?

Maybe the smaller can allows the propane to still swirl around to the plug, I know on my old RAM's if the plug wasn't between the 10:00 and 2:00 positions they wouldn't light until the whole damn can was full and then they'd go BANG so freakin loud you thought the engine had blown up. Seen the same issues on most engines. At least that airplane is small enough that starting inverted wouldn't be that difficult anyway

Cool project.
My friend has one too....with a prop though

Are you going to heat protect the tail from the turbine exhaust ?

Front view of the now airstarted Kolibri T25
This is how it mounts in the airplane, a lasercut clamp and a CNC cut former from HAB Electronic.
The engine mount glued in place useing epoxy and what we call white ash as a filler.

do you know whats the dry weight?
im sure you easily go beyond 250mph with all the hard work involve!
keep it up!!!

What is your thrustline for the turbine since it is above the C/L of the wing and forward of the CG?

Interesting project. All I can say is you must have very good eyes. Keep up the good work

Installing the electronics would prove to be a challenge. I did strip the ECU and changed the RJ45 connector to a 4pole connector going out the nose cone for easy access. Also the gas post and battery connectors go out the nose cone. Two 350mAh packs, a Jeti 12A BEC and fuelfilter togeater with a solenoid and pump... hm
this did't fit

looks pretty fast.......got any messurements of speed ?

I need to do more testing before I can get a proper top speed reading. It is faster then the Baiojet though the video shows a flyby after gunning it when properly aligned with the runway, so still accelerating when passing the camera. Now I need to find some sort of super human so operate the camcorder

While awaiting for better weather and a shiny orange front cover for the engine I'll share a pic from the testflight in early march

Snabbt! [8D]
Would probably be easier to get a normal human to stand further back from the runway!

Yeah, we'll figure a way to get in on the screen

New cowling arrived from Martin Lambert, in this config with air start the little engine capable of almost 7lb of thrust weighs in at only 7.79oz. Quite impressive

The first video from the Kolibri meeting, only a small clip of a launch at 09:00-> and a view of the plane at 11:35->
I throttle up to about 1kg(2lb) of thrust when launching and then give a short burst of full power(7lb) on the vertical until going down again back at maybe 1kg(2lb) of thrust. I hope someone got my full power runs of the Sunday
Launches so easy even at 1.35kg(3lb) fueld up.
More later I guess

Nice video. Good to see people enjoying low cost turbine flying in modest size planes.
Your Swist is nicely dialled in, though it looks like you could do with a bit more power!

RE: The 250mph Swist F5D
i have one of these kits, but it will be a standard prop.
do you also tape the back of the wing to the fuse? with the wing bolts so far forward the rear seems un-supported (?)
