Frets, your wing looks, that they added a layer of glue between the foil and wing. Some modellers use this method, this glue is on something as dispersive glue.
Your gear legs look very good, it is electric retract?

Luckily the adhesive comes off easily.

Yes, the retracts are the Wingspan 85* electrics.

Hi guys!

I have this plane with a Webra 120 Nitro engine. Great engine - I, however, wonder....

I just purchased a Tartan Super77 Gas (44cc) twin engine. Would this be too much engine for this plane? I certainly would think the weight would be just right (a nudge over 4 pounds, if memory serves me correctly). Let me know all! I also have a DLE 30 that I am thinking of outfitting. I like the setup with the Ryobi. I have one that I just might have converted to EI, if it flies nicely! Like what I am seeing. Thanks!

Could you receive them as a "gift", or as a ''return of repaired item'' tax free? As in have them shipped to someone here and then re-sent to you.....

on another note; It occured to me that the CopyShop may have retained the file on my enlargement. If they have, I will get a copy and forward the file to you if you want it.

Again you are correct, i forgot that i was seeing already in Euro the prices, so for me is 79€ and 105USD for US "pilots". Even so i think that is a nice price for a complete set. I´m just waiting to someone to tell me the correct size on the struts in order to get a set for me.

@erec, any size that fit inside is good. I have some Robart legs that i have to cut for about 1 cm (because I wanted to use big wheels 4").
I will measure it tomorrow and post it to you.

Checked in at the CopyShop[&o] Unfortunately they only keep those files for 30 days.

The good news is that I need another set for myself because I don't feel like tracing a bunch of areas I need to "adjust", so I will be having them scanned, saved to my flashdrive, and reprinted either this coming weekend or next. I'll make sure to put a "registry measurement" in inches and metric to be able to check the print accuracy as well. I'll PM the file to you and anyone else who wants them too.

I'll let you know when I have them and take any requests then


In other news; I just finished my second flap in a whirlwind and very productive building session. No pics since I already detailed the flaps a few pages back. Was very pleased with the result as it matches the first one exactly!! Then it dawned on me[X(]...in my haste and excitement about having a couple hours where I was guaranteed no interuptions , it matches the first one exactly!!....now since I have two flaps for the same wing, I guess I'll make one for the other wing......


I'm usually not that clueless or inattentive.....

Some pictures of mine, i have just started so nothing special so far.The engine is in place i have put the Ryobi with a 45mm stad-offs, I have a TME smoke pump inside the fuselage atached to the firewall but i´m not sure on the place for the smoke fluid should be, also i´m waithing for the retracts ESM for the KH-84 and the struts to start working on the wings. I have build a small hatch to have the power switch the 2 fuel lines for engine and smoke fluid and the place for the pressure gauge for the retracts.

I just put a Tartan 44cc twin on mine! Should go like a bat out of hell. Balance is almost perfect with no weight!

Its a WT338 and works just fine, i get 8700rpm with a 16x10 prop but i will try a 19 or 20 to to get him to work around 7500rpm. The 2 smoke fluid tank are in place! i didnt have much space to work with a regular size so i decided to use two small ones. I guess that they are right on CG place.

hello everybody , ive been following this thread for some time and was wondering if somebody here has actually installed a radial engine in one of these birds, i ask because i just bought the ASP 400 from Hobby king and would like to mount it on this bird, i have seen the ones on you tube and was wondering if they had to add tail weight, i ask here because sometimes they never reply or take forever to answer a question on you tube

I asked the same question several months back; one person answered with a pic of the ASP R400 in the cowl. Unfortunately it was a pic of the 50cc, not the 120 size Zero. I'd like to know if the 400 will fit the 120 cowl without cutting holes in it as well. Judging from my measurements it seems it will be VERY tight if it does fit. I'm waiting on NitroPlanes to get restocked with parts to order the latest and greatest CMP cowl to see if it is just a bit bigger than mine. I appear to have a near identical knock-off the CMP zero; the wings, tail feathers and canopy are interchangeable with a friends CMP Zero but he is also awaiting a replacement cowl as he got his at a storage unit auction for $50 without a cowl or rudder. No help in measuring there It does apear that the CMP cowl gets larger, or at least stays the same diameter towards the front where mine narrows just a bit.

Hopefully someone with objective knowledge will chime in here.

Just realized I read what I wanted to see rather than what you actually asked. I'm concerned with size and you were asking CG. My bet would be that you are still going to need to put everything forward even with the 400 up front. if not you could put the tail sevos and battery behind the CG and not have to add any dead wieght to the tail.

Do you have both the plane and the engine already?

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd post some pics with my Tartan Super 77 44cc twin on the nose This thing should HAUL *****! I think I am a touch small in prop diameter, but I just outfitted this engine with a brand spankin new RCXEL twin ignition from rcextremepower.com! As it turns out, the very old C&H I had was literally replaced as a drop in with this unit! Very excited. Let me know what you think!

Well, after 3 flights last year, it was time for this year premier of my Zero. have been flying two days in lat week.
Model is great. Zenoah G26SC is working at half throttle all time. Plenty of power in it like it is not 8.5 kg weight.

But the seventh flight has been a disaster
During the last landing, there was a problem at first. In the first approach for landing I was too high, so I made ​​another circle.
Since there was no wind and speed was too fast, so I probably made ​​a mistake and let the flaps down more than it should.
Model began to lose speed and started to glide parallel to the runway, and fear that I will land outside of strip in the tall grass (a field is unknown to me and I do not know what's there)
I pushed the stick away from me at the time the model was about 1 m hihg and had a bit rougher landing. On runway with grass probably would not have anything happen,
but when hitting the concrete, the wheels fell off in my astonishment.
I had the impression that the shot is so great that it tore gear and I was right. It happened that the aluminum part, which is holding strust broke (bouth).

Damage?

Well surprisingly fuselage has no damage, even propeller is undamaged. Spark plug has broke, and on fuselage I have only this yellow mark





Struts are in one piece and they did not bend even. Here is how that aluminium looks







When wheels fell off, they made some damage on down side, but it can be repaired.
To my surprise, even gear mount was not broken. So, probably, that material was too weak



Now I have to fix wing and to make new aluminium part.

Sorry to see that this happened but very happy to see that the damage is minimal. Still a great looking plane...looking forward tohearing that it is all fixed and in the air again.

Nice pics of the countryside there too. Looks like a very nice place to fly

Has anyone used the wing span elec in this size plane yet?

frets24, in answer to your question, I have been using WingSpan retracts in this plane since Nov. last year. I completely rebuilt the gear mounting and wheel well areas during initial asssembly of the plane. Also added flaps. The structure just seemed totally inadequate for our field and my flying ability. I used Robart air up spring downs 700 serie retracts but they would not lock down consistantly. Worked fine on the ground but I would land and one or the other would fold on roll out. We have a grass field so no damage.

On the first operation of the gear after install, one smoked. Sent the back to WingSpan. Michael said he had new circuit boards to take care of the problem. Got the gear back. They worked fine until one malfunctioned, forturnatley while down. (estimate about 30 cycles on the retracts). Motor ran but didnt' turn the jack screw. Called Michael at WingSpan. He said they had seen the problem and had 3rd generation gear to solve. He replaced my retracts with new ones. They have been working ok. I have about 15 cycles on them at this time and 10 take offs and landings.

Hopefully the teething problems with the retracts are solved. Otherwise they seem sturdy and easy to install struts. They have some slop in them, but no more than usual.

Thanks for the feedback Rbean; I've seen your reports on the "WS elect in H9 P40" thread also...missed the fact that you plainly said you were running them in a CMP Zero[&:]

Did these seem awfully deep to you?

After installing mine I dont think there was even an 1/8'' of rib remaining on the inboard rib due to the notching necessary to clear the WS gear housing. Worrisome in that this rib is the inboard support for the mounting rails/blocks. I ended up carriing my blocks through to the next rib because of that.

Yes, the retracts are deeper than normal. You just have to work around it. Flew my Zero yesterday so have about 18 cycles on the new replacement retracts. I guess we are doing "product field testing" for WingSpan. I used three plywood short ribs and long hard wood mounting beams to spread the load. Probably "over built" the gear mounts, but they can't be too strong.
Also moved them inboard slightly, mounted further forward and shortened the gear so there is less leverage on the gear when landing and used 4" wheels so had to enlarge the wheel wells. Using a 25cc conversion which is adequate power turning a 17-8 two blade about 7,400 rpm. I think I have about 120 flights on this plane. Even at 16 lbs it flys great.
