Road Patrol South across the 38th Parallel
Today I took the Leo on a Road Patrol South across the 38th Parallel on US Highway 550.
The mission was to set up defensive positions (really just take some pictures) up above the road. I found three good spots to park the Leo where I could cover the only paved road through the mountains to the “Switzerland of America". I can now say with confidence that Ouray is safe from RC tank invasions coming from the South.
The exercise a success, I returned the Leo to it’s quarters, stood down, and had a cold one…

amazing as always this is my favorite pic of them you can see how the colours of the camo match the colours in the mountain side

Looks awesome! That back drop would make a great background for my desktop.

Thanks guys. I enjoy sharing pix of the tanks out in the mtns. They do make a good backdrop.
I would be happy to pose the Panther G up there. Give me a week or so…
I shy away from pictures of the WWII tanks in the high country cause they never got this high in the war. I have found pictures of Soviet lend lease Sherman’s in the mtns. of Czechoslovakia, and Tigers in the mtns. of Italy, but nothing else. It seems the Germans kept the tanks mostly down in the lower country.
I try to keep my tank pictures somewhat historically accurate so the WWII tanks usually get posed with a more nondescript background.
Modern tanks can be shown in any terrain and with the Switzerland of America just down the road, well a Swiss Leo with forest camo was a no brainer. My favorite picture of the trip is the one in front of the Lookout Point sign… I set it on the tailgate and shot the tank and sign with it zoomed way out. It worked better than I had expected.
Soon the county road crew will open up the high passes, then I can go up into the high country to get some more snow pix, and get in some ski turns too! I will pose the Panther up above treeline for you. That’s about 12,000ft. around here.

Thanks and don't make it a priority, it's just that this background (to me) is breath taking.
Thanks for sharing them with us!

What method did you paint the digital camo pattern? That looks great.
I wonder how wide spread the use of digital camo on AFV's really is... not seen any.

Here is a link to my build thread, in it I show how I painted the Leo. Also a link to a U-tube vid I watched to learn how.
Digi camo is not very common on AFV's. I belive it is a labor issue, it just takes too much time to do a digi camo so most countrys don't bother.
I thought it would be fun to try it so I did.

So this is not my movie, I did not make it, but it shows the drive up from Ouray and at 2:20 it shows the place I took my tank pictures.
It's a fun drive. There are no guard rails so they can push the snow over the side. I have driven this pass in a blizzard.
Oh, my, I am still laughing at the dialog in the second one...
