Default TC3 Top Speed Build Log.

Hello everyone....well, i decided to make a log for my tc3 top speed build i've been working on during this very mild winter i've been having.

Just a little background....i am a big nitro guy.....i have a rs4 evo (hence my name) with a modified trx 3.3 implanted into it. Top speed of that nitro was 61mph and not any more. After reading many posts about brushless cars and they are the new wave of rc, i decided to entertain the idea. So, i got a good deal on a tc3 electric roller...and then got another tc3 roller on ebay with team parts..
Heres my current list of mods and components i have on the tc3.

1. Team Kit TC3
2. Upgraded HD RPM Ball cups all around.
3. Custom Titanium drive shaft
4. Adjustable Shocks
5. PFTE Bearing everywhere
6. 30mm Front foam tires
7. Custom 44mmrear foams (Cut down toalittle under 40mm to fitunderneath body.)
8. Protoform TCC gen 2 body

9. Castle Creations Mamba Max Pro ESC
10. CC 7700kv 4pole brushless motor
11. Turnigy 5000mah 30c 3s LiPo battery
12. 72 tooth Spur gear with a 23 tooth pinion.
13. Big heatsink for motor
14. 1600mah6v receiver pack battery
15.Traxxas 2.4ghz 2218 receiverpaired with traxxas transmitter.

I think that list is just about everything.. Currently i had thecar speed tested at 51mph...but had alotta traction issues as it was alittle toocold outside...plus my diffs were all messed up..
With mycurrent set up on thecar( alnog with the ESC set in the middle timing..) i should be getting aroundbetween55mph to 60mph...yesterday it was around 50 degrees and did some passes and its running alot smoother..seems just as fastas my rs4 nitro...but i will have to wait and find out. This morning i orderedsome pinion gears...i am going to pop on a 31 toothpinion and make a couple of runswith that when the weather breaks.

I alsojust gotdone with my protoform body that i got to helpwith aerodynamics..whichhas seemed to work yesterday..even though it was very windy.

If anyone has any suggestions feel free to say them...

I've heard that the tc3 chassis isn't the greatest for high speed runs but the tc4 chassis is? What do i have to swapto put a tc4 chassis on atc3?

Heres some current pics of the beast.

I have heard the some TC3 and TC4 parts are interchangeable, but I don't know which ones. Your best bet is to d/l the manual for the TC4 off of AE's web site, and cross-reference that against the one for your car. There's a FT carbon fiber chassis out there for the TC4, and there's also at least two aftermarket CF chassis for it as well. So, if you're worried about flexing, your options are out there. Good luck, and please post some videos of your speed runs if you can!

Bell crank, different shock towers (although they are interchangeable), the chassis is slimmer... not too many differences, most of the parts will swap right over. I have a TC3 that is mostly TC4 parts, besides the chassis.

I just re-read the thread, and I saw something that stuck out to me.

Are you sure it's safe to run that 7700Kv with a 3S? I've got the same esc and the original CM36 7700Kv motor, and the company warns that using a 3S will spin the motor too fast, and the magnets will fly off the rotor and smash into the inside of the stator, and destroy the thing.

I'm thinking being a 4-pole motor wouldn't make a difference with the 3S lipo and rpm issue. Here's a link to their web site that explains it - look for F.A.Q. #12.

Max rpm on the 7700 is 100,000 rpm...with no load i am running 86,000....i am having no problems running 3s...in time i probably will go lower and just have the gearing.

Please re-edit. I'm sure that all of us would like to see this.

Something around 67mph sounds realistic, just like my TC5FT.

Post those pics and videos!!!

I did some passes last week with my tc3. I got some new pinion gears in. For the runs i used a 72-29t set up. I can't beleive what a difference the body has made..this car stay stuck to the ground like a charm...it was only in the mid 40's the day i did it..and the foam tires didn't give..i made about 5 passes back and forth and montiored my motor temps, which were at 101 consistantly...so i can still gear this bad boy shorter....i have a 33t pinion i am going to put in there...i did about 30 passes in all, with the max temp on my motor being 131 degrees.

Once the weather breaks and my buddys come over, i'll get it radared and video.

Theres one thing i didn't like about the runs and that is, when i cut the protoform body, on the rear section i cut about 3/4 to much up....so now, those flaps on the rear flap around doing some speed, which is causing drag and rub on my tires. i am going to put a reinforcement on the rear to get rid of that....oh well...other then that the car went real straight and had no lift.

yeah, that motor is bound to go KABOOM! it may be rated for high rpm, but dont be shocked if it blows up.

The heat will attack the epoxy that holds onto the magnets, and the redline rpm force will make them weigh over triple their original weight. Then those two things happen, over time, the motor falls apart.

For anyone wanting to know about running a 7700 on more than 2s, I have ran the 7700 mamba on 5s before the key is not doing a ton of passes 2-3 passes max then let it cool down for a while.... The people that blow them up are the ones that try to screw around for 20 minutes and let it boil hot and fall apart.. I had over 100 passes on my old 7700 on a single 5s pack.... HV110 esc..... good luck love these tc3's about to start my build soon!

I plan on getting a 5s lipo int he future....and yes, you are right..people that blow it up are the morons. I use this ride for speed runs..2-3 passes on max timing is enough heat for the motor...when i wanna bash with it, i can hook up the 2s lipo and be fine for a long time.

Question for you TC3 guys.

I have one I assembled from a kit when they first came out, it's not the team car with all the blue parts but not the RTR either. I'm setting it back up and need tires, body and electronics. I want to buy a body but seems like most I see are 200mm, I'm thinking my kit car was 180mm?? I know what drifting is but what exactly are drifting tires?

The TC3's are 190mm stock. You can buy the 200mm a arm upgrade kit if you'd like to go 200mm...i stayed with the 190 and just put wider foams on and installed a 200mm body just fine...as you can see in the pics.

Whats up everyone. Its been a long time since i posted on here with my on going project...but i'd thought i'd give you a update.

To this date my MAX speed mph for my tc3 was aconsective 106mph.

Set up was with a mamba controller with the 7700kv with a 5s lipo. Gearings was a 72 spur with a 32pinion. For all you guys that tell everyone that the 7700kv motor won't work with anything more then a 2s....you are WRONG......i will have to edit, that you can't run anymore then 5s with it.....to beat my 106 mph number i tried putting in a 6s....that was a mistake...after a run back and forth, i blew the motor up..woops..oh well....but now i am moving on to a different project. I will be getting the TA - rc10r5.1 pan car.....i will be able to put my 7700kv motor with a 3s and run much faster because of the 1:1 ratio.....i'll keep a project log shortly.

I would get a better radio something that will give you longer range and lower your cars body.the closer the body sits on the ground the less air will be going under your car meaning it will stay on the ground instead of getting airborne.
