RE: Great Planes F-86 Sabre Micro EDF
Here's my collection of video's so far:
First one is with a cam onboard facing front.

Then one facing rear

Next, I wanted a birds eye view of how it performs taking off from grass

This one has me videoing with a cam strapped to my cap.

Very nice perspectives! I get a kick out of seeing the jet figure flying in a small schoolyard.

I had to try. When I saw the Tactic AnyLink 2.4 GHz module would fit my old Futaba 6DA (which has been sidelined and gathering dust for about eight years) I ordered the F-86 and the AnyLink and a new Tx battery for my 6DA. Looking forward to playing with my first four-channel electric and first kinda jet.

Allright, Charlie! And nope, you're not alone: those evil marketing geniuses got me with their Anylink scheme, too.I was an "Easy Mark", awilling victim on this one. Waiting for calmer summer weather but not for long.....gonna' be a great flying season!!!

Thanks.
I used an ebay HD720 keychain cam. Cost ~30 but you need to buy a HD Class6+ micro SD card for it as it has no onboard storage, cost around ~10US for 8Gb.
I took off the case and removed the lipo in it to lighten it and soldered on a lead to allow me to plug into the balance connector of the lipo to power it with 3.7V .

Received mine today. The elevator halves were horribly mis-matched for throws (port 2X of starboard) so I did some pre-flight hacking and matched them to equal throws. By moving the rod to the innermost hole on the starboard horn I got them 1:1, or nearly so. But this required some drastic measures and careful applicaton of JB Weld to reattach the horn. Not for the feint of heart. The port horn has the rod in the third hole out - giving a hint to how badly asymetrical they were.
I applied only enough JB Weldand smoothed the upper application with a damp finger, and while darker than the rest of the elevator it adds a lot of rigidity. The wef finger smoothing also feathers the edge so there won't be a hard spot for future stress problems.
Did both sides while I was at it to reinforce the control horn base and for the sake of equal looks. It's not as apparant as the flash makes it appear now that it has dried.

Also happy to have pulled my trusty 'ol 6DA out of mothballs for something. I pulled the crystal and tacked the Tactic Any.Link to the backside and I'm ready to go. Truly required only reversing the throttle servo and it was set - though I haven't trimmed out the jet yet.

My factory supplied 250mah lipo weighed in at 16.4grams. I had to tape a dime to it to get the plane to fly correctly. The plane flies great with or without the landing gear installed.

We finally got a chance to fly the GP F-86 Sabre Micro EDF last weekend. As expected, it flew awesome right out of the box!
My JR 9503 transmitter worked great with the Tactic Any-Link and I learned that if you keep the JR transmitter switch off that the trainer mode only powers the Any-Link transmitter. Some folks had been complaining that their transmitter battery was draining twice as fast because it was powering two transmitters.
I'll post some video and more flying photos later this week...

The Great Planes Tx-R micro F-86 Sabre flew great right out of the box! The Any-Link transmitter worked flawlessly with my JR 9503 transmitter and the 4-5 minute flights only used 50% of the battery capacity. I didn't find any flaws with this model; it flies as good as it looks!

I had to add a little weight to the front of mine. Was severly tail heavy and would flip over on its back on launch straight outta the box. I didn't int balance because I thought it was RTF right out of the box. It does perform well for a ultra micro plane, flight time is a bit short but other than those two complaints it is a really nice airplane.

The "flip over thing" can be normal for a ducted fan. I'd guess we all experienced it many times. Once you stall the plane, there's no prop thrust over the elevators and it just flips around. The trick I've found is to toss it slightly downward, not up as this is what many times causes it to get into a stall. Once it's flying forward with air over the tail, it flies well with the stock CG. That said, if you like your new CG, by all means.

I added a 1/2" x 4mm piece of steel rod (taped under the lip at the front of the canopy) and when I hand launch I do an underhand push at 3/4 throttle releasing at maybe 20° up angle. Works fine. The little added nose weight is also a help at wind penetration. I have no hesitation about flying in 10 mph winds.
I've had mine a year now and am amazed at how well this dinky little jet handles itself. I have one crease in her - from trying to launch at full throttle and teh wind got under the wings before I could correct. A figure "9". That was on the second flight. Since then (and correcting the mis-matched elevator halves as noted earlier in the thread) it has been smooth flying and soft landings.
We had our field opener and paint task force work day two days ago and I took mine just to have something to fly after the work was done. It continues to raise eyebrows among those who haven't seen it fly before. The coments like "sounds like Barbi's hair dryer or a dog whistle" quiet down after the first low pass at full throttle.
For a park flyer it has long legs! Scoots right along and can take up big pieces of the sky. Fun, fun, fun!

Mine took a nasty Loop from hand launch and crashed into the ground....the last time it went up and flew for like 20 seconds and then banked into the ground breaking the wing and the tail fin off....[>:] glued it back on and tried to repair it the best I can...will fly it again soon but my U2's are Soooooooooooooo much better in flying..

I went out today and flew mine in a fenced pasture that is 165 ft x 330 ft. With a tree in not quite the middle. Got it up, Had fun. Got it down. Below the 60 ft tree line it was a handful.
Immediately upon landing I popped the AnyLink off my 15 year old"pre-digital trim, model memory orexponential rates"Futaba 6DA and programmed it onto my just arrivedSpektrum DX6i. This model needs exponential rates. Yowzer!

RE: Great Planes F-86 Sabre Micro EDF
I've had two of these and both have had a "glitch" in them that must cause the elevator to go to full up which causes them to do a tight loop and go into the ground straight down. It happens so fast I was not able to even reduce power so they went straight in at full power and broke the noses off. This happened after a couple of flights where they flew really nicely so I have no idea what happened to cause this, but both times it happened right after a launch when I moved the elevator control stick just a tiny but. I mean I barely breathed on it and the tight loop ensued. Because of my experience I consider this model to be a loser and undependable. That is too bad because when all works well they fly really nicely and are the right size to have in the car with you at all times. The first one was graciously replaced by Tower Hobbies when I called them to tell them of the glitch - I decided not to bother them when the second one did the same thing - because of my experience with these two I can't recommend this model.

I don't think it's an electronic glitch. I think it's an aerodynamic quirk. No propwash against the elevetor on hand-launch and a concave wing surface, Wind flips it on it's back and you have no elevator authorty. That and I believe as the instructions go it is tail heavy. Once I started with a gentle underhand launch at 3/4 throttle and added about 5 grams of weight ahead of the battery we have been pals. It is a handfull but any high performance equipment is.
If I lost mine I'd get another.

RE: Great Planes F-86 Sabre Micro EDF
Interesting! Mine did the vertical on launch followed by out of control dive also. It appeared to have a bunch of UP elevator trim out of the box. Once I corrected that, it flew better, but not as good as the Eflite MiG 15.
