RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Here is the plane my grandpa built a few years ago, he drove out from Arkansas to give me this, a GMC Yukon, and my dad another plane. Yet to fly it, too much other stuff to do but its all set up and just needs an Rx and some time and it should be flyable. Has an ASP .91 2 stroke in it. Fired rite up with an old crappy starter so looks like it runs good Cant wait to get this beast out to the field!!
HAVE A PEPSI Pepsi is amazing btw people, drink it!

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Too bad I never found this thread when I was building mine, lots of good info and pics. Finished mine a few weeks back. Nice flyer. I built mainly to plans. It's got a YS-140, moved the tank to the cg, moved the servos for the tail to a compartment in the fuse behind the wing. My landing gear is in the wing. I was going to move it to the fuse but my kit came with instructions and material to beef up the wing mount. Must have been a kit that was shipped while they were redesigning the wing/fuse/landing gear.

Not sure what prop the ASP will like, but I have an Extra with a OS 91 FX and use a 16 x 6 prop. Some people say that's too much prop for a .91 and recommend ones as small as a 13 x 8, but they're confusing a screaming rpm with useful thrust. I've tried lots of different props and nothing compares on that plane. I'm using a 17 x 8 on the YS 140.

It has a 13 something on it. Probably a 13x8. It just looks tiny with the giant cowling. I have a 14x8, 15x8, and 16x6... which should I try out first on a .91?
19x8 Sounds huge!! haha

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Is there any negative in running a larger prop? Will it overheat or destroy the engine? Most things say a 13x8 for a .91 2s but I think the bigger prop would be nice and maybe add a little for some minor 3d? Just need to get this beast set up! I dont have enough room to even pull it down rite now with 15+ other planes in there! haha.

Yup, its a version 2. Apart for modding the firewall area for a gasser, putting the tail servos in the rear and perhaps making the ailerons HUGE and tail surfaces a bit bigger (they are quite big already) she will be built standard

Raydar,
You might consider putting flying wires on the tail section. I had to do this with mine which is powered with a MOki 1.8 .

Cheers for the heads up Jim, I have taken your advice and modified the horizontal stab by adding a couple of beech blocks for mounting flying wires to the tail.
Is there anything else you or anyone elsefound to be troublesome when fitting a bigger engine to this model, also how did you find the plane to balance with the bigger engine, was it tail heavy or nose heavy and where were your tail servos, cheers in advance.

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
I built one heavily modified. Two wing halves with wing tube. Airfoiled stabilizer. Extended the fuse 3". Made a removeable canopy. Oversized the elevators and Rudder and the ailerons go inboard one more bay. DLE 30 for power. Flies awesome. Mine is a little tail heavy with a single elevator servo under the canopy. The one thing I can tell you is to beef up the engine box. Not so much at the fire wall (just pin that), but where the box attaches to former "A". After about 80 flights, the box tore away from Former "A" on the two sides and the bottom. Luckily I didn't lose the plane and it was easily fixed.

RE: Sukhoi SU-26 MX build
Raydar,
In my case I set the engine back into the fuselage so that the engine hub was as shown in the plans and made sure that the right thrust was as called for. I also have three servos mounted into the fuselage near the tail. I then moved the battery around and found the C.G. without adding any weight. They do not like to land easily being nose heavy.
