Default Losi XXX-SCT or AE SC10 RS Procomp

My son is looking for a 1/10th scale basher, may possibly get some track time. We were initially set on getting something 4wd, but his budget is $250. As far as 2wd, it seems these two are the deal. The Losi is $199 shipped, brushed, 2.4g, great reviews from every source I can find, great tires, etc. The AE sc10 RS had aluminum body shocks, Jconcepts tires, Reedy brushless motor, etc- for $250. I haven't found as much about the procomp SC. I was looking at the ECX Torment (pretty slow and no aftermarket) and the Arrma shortcourse and Mojave- both run 29mph on a brushed motor and 2S, but no aftermarket.

fHorizon was one of many places http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...t-rtr-LOSB0106 Also found a roller for $129- but adding a servo, rx/tx. and esc/motor would put him well over $250.

He could get the roller for $135 shipped, but I'm not sure there's a brushless combo in stock for $70 that would work well or not.  They don't have any of the Flysky 2.4g's either.  Then it would need a servo for $20-30.....  I've heard the Reedy 3k brushless isn't impressive in the SC10 RS, so I'm wondering now.

Our local Hobbytown USA sells the XXX-SCT for $199.  No need to order that one online.  They won't match the deal from Tower on the SC10 RS for $250 though, it's $299.  The other issue with the SCT roller is we've never painted a body before.  That would come out looking pretty amateur unless I spent forever on it......

I think I'm going nuclear with it as I do with every purchase...... He just runs it around the hood and we look for places at times. Frickin 4wd is the way to go, but it leaves me with the Helion. The folks at Hobbytown have all good to say about it (of course, it's their house brand), but folks on the net are quite opposite. We went last night and saw the xxx-sct and scb, but they're in the box. Of course, they have the Helion 4x4 on display for $199, it does seem hard to beat. IF we could just get to a track on occasion, these 2wd's would be without a doubt a blast. Maybe they still would be as he does tend to blast down the street.
Another idea on another forum was to get the Losi, sell the motor/esc for $50 ish and he could buy the Castle combo.

The Castle Sidewinder systems are junk, stay away. ThunderbirdJunkie never thought he'd say this, but go Novak or Hobbywing for a budget brushless system. Novak's Edge 2S systems go for around 150ish.
