I totally agree with your thinking on moving the cg back, but I think the idea is that moving the cg back allows you to use less elevator therefore making it less likely to stall.
This worries me a bit because I like to fly wide open and crank my jets around in the turns. I guess I would rather be more nose heavy than too tail heavy in that scenario.

Excellent point but think about this. Since this is a flying elevator perhaps it has some lift and if it stalls then the wing would too? Just thinking out loud.

That's it! It looks like the jet was at an extremely high angle of attack however. An F-16 could get away with that but not a Hawk. Nose high will be OK with this one but within reason for a design like this. I'm glad you posted that picture...it actually gives me more confidence in the jet. The weather is looking great for the weekend, now I just need some other pilots to commit to going to the field (we don't fly alone at our site). I will keep you posted!

That picture is not a really good representation. My AOA was nowhere near that high on my approach (i'm not that crazy, lol), the picture shows the result of the stall. Just be careful, you'll be fine. The plane is on rails otherwise. BTW, you would not use anywhere near the amount of elevator that I used on this approach even if you were yanking the hell out of it. Weather looks good this weekend so good luck!

It's a 6x12 - Yes, I built the cart - its made of 2" square steel tubing with plywood shelves and covered with foam. It is 56" x 84". The trailer has 120v flourescent lights and outlets built in and I also have a 30amp 12v power supply built in with deans outlets in front and back to run chargers. I may have to convert to your velcro system ... NICE!
My buddy bought the same exact trailer (even the same color) as you did about a year ago and loves it! You did a nice job with it.

Hi Guys.
Four perfect flights on the HAWK today! The jet was well behaved It felt like I had been flying this jet forever. For takeoff, I used 15mm of flap. The jet just flies right off the runway! Super smooth. In the air it feels rock solid and fly’s like a good crisp pattern ship. Four point rolls , slow rolls, loops, imelmans, knife edge, inverted flight, you name it this Hawk does it with ease. My elevator flap mix was almost perfect from the start. I took a bit of the up mix out on each flight and finally on the fourth flight had it just right so the jet did not balloon at all with the full 30mm of flaps. I can measure the mix when I get home and tell you exactly where I ended up. I am using about 45mm of elevator , up and down with no expo (I don’t use expo anywhere) and the jet felt just how I like it. None of the tendency to snap as others have noted. I think they may have their CG too far back. The roll rate at the recommended travel was insane so I dialed this back a bit. On base leg I actually had to pull the throttle all the way and let her glide down on final. On final I added a bit of power to compensate for the 15mph wind. The jet flies right down to the runway like a trainer!! About a foot or so off the runway I raised the nose a bit and gently landed on the mains. Completely uneventful....all four times! On takeoff, the jet accelerates so fast that it is necessary to get the gear up immediately or it will hang up. It did on the first two flights. After pumping the gear up to 120PSI and pulling the gear right at liftoff, It cleans up perfectly. In the air at high spend however the main gear doors creep open. This is due to the placement of the door cylinder on the door. There is just not enough mechanical advantage. I may look at that but will admit to getting used to it with my FeiBao Panther. Also my custom spring job worked just perfect on the landing gear struts. Never bottoming out and providing good shock absorption. I love the Skymaster gear and retracts. They worked flawless every time. The wheels are some of the smoothest rolling wheels I have ever used. The jet would just keep going even uphill! All in all I am in love with this jet. It looks fantastic in the air and on the ground and handles like a dream!! All my hard work paid off. By the way, It has been over a year and a half since I last flew a turbine. That is when I sold all my stuff. But I am back Baby!!

Thanks everyone. I am real excited about this jet. Rich Miller (RCISFUN) let me stay at his house last night. We are headed back out to the airport this morning and I hope to get at least another 4 flights on the Hawk.
Here are a couple pictures that Cliff (flyaway) and Jack took yesterday.

I forgot to mention the my new P-120SX. This is 30 pounds of thrust out of the box and can be turned up to 32 pounds. No need however since this jet is fast and has very strong vertical performance. Just a perfect combination. I was a bit concerned about my overall weight but it turns out it was no problem. Gentle flight characteristics and plenty of power on tap.

RE: Maj. Woody's X-Treme Jets BAE Hawk 1/5.5
I just returned home from my weekend at Titusville. I have a total of five flights on the jet now and can report the following:
1. I am thrilled with how the jet looks and handles in the air.
2. I am extremely disappointed to find out that all the bubble wrap marks that I thought I rubbed out are still visible in the paint when in direct sun light. As you know, Skymaster wrapped the jet in bubble wrap before letting the paint fully cure. The escaping vapors in the paint reacted with the paint leaving the ugly bubble wrap marks all over my jet. This is not what I paid for and need to hear from Skymaster on how this will be resolved. I feel a partial refund is in order to compensate for the unacceptable finish on the jet.
3.My Flying day was cut short because the supplied rudder control horn broke in half during flight number five. I noticed the jet was not holding Knife edge and saw the broken linkage after landing. Amazingly, the free rudder did not flutter during the flight.
4. I encountered flutter on my the second flight. This happened on a high speed pass. We think it was the flaps. The position of the flap servo and the resulting linkage geometry makes for a marginal setup. I am going to address this and document my process.
I hope to work the bugs out of the jet soon and get her back in the air. It fly's so wonderfully but I need to address these issues.
As for the paint, I either have to live with it or strip it and paint it. Again, Lets see what Skymaster has to say about this. I let you know.
