Went by my LHS today and saw this baby for $25 so I grabbed it. I figure at the very least it's cool to display in the workshop!

My experience is mostly in scale boats so I'm really not sure what I got? Or if it's elecric or nitro? Or if it's something I can get up and running at the lake without taking out a second mortgage?

Hull is about 41" long, thick fiberglass and very solid. No prop was included, but I'm pretty sure the output shaft is 3/16".

Any friendly advice on a beginners setup for this boat (motor, speed control, prop, batteries, motor-to-shaft coupler, etc.).

I'd really appreciate some opinions.

Definitely an internal combustion engine, the motor mount with the rubber absorbs the vibrations.
Talk to the nitro guys they would be able to help.
Or you could switch it to electric. you just need to remove the motor mount and put in an appropriate one,

Looks like the 42" Aeromarine Sprint Cat .80/.90 with the turbine cowl.

Nitro engine mount for a .80 to .90 nitro engine.
if rails are 5 inches apart you can convert it to a 26cc gas engine and if flex shaft is 3/16 I would switch to 1/4 inch for gas.
but 3/16 should be fine for nitro or electric.

To convert to electric is absolutely possible.
what are your goals, speed wise?
running time?
and most importantly, what are you willing to spend?

I'd prefer to convert this one to electric, just not sure what motor/speed control/prop combo would work.

My goal would be a budget boat that gets along at a decent clip, but I don't need to break any speed records, rather I'd prefer longer run times, less maintenance, lower cost. Maybe something I could upgrade later on down the road.

Definately something brushless. I've been in the RC hobby since the 80s, and still have yet to try brushless . I think it's time to step into the new milennium, technology-wise .

Harry has a point, a big 10S cat can be expensive. You need to know what you are getting into before you start. Harry and I both have run plenty of big 10S boats and we have a pretty good idea what works and what does not. I'm not trying to discourage you, we'll give you plenty of good advice. But plan on well over $1000 for the build. With FE boats, you can have cheap, fast or reliable, choose any two.

BTW, don't listen to advice from those who have not actually built and run 10S boats. It is always so much easier to plan someone else's build when it isn't your money being spent.
