I heard Phil was dropping warbirds and going to go all 3D crappie floppers!

Doug, I highly considered a DLE-100/111, but since I had the Q-100 lying around, that was the powerplant of choice. We have had virtually no snow here this winter, which is odd, and i has been pretty mild, but I still don't fly unless it is around 60 degrees out. I hope to get the fuse painted today, and pain on the markings this weekend and set it aside for balance after I get the Spit done. Then I will have a lead party as I have 3 planes to balance now....a CJM Corsair, this Zero and the 12 foot Spit.....post pics of your zero here if ya have any. Here is the Zero stencil plate I need to try and duplicate on the aft, rear, fuse section.

Have you considered using dry transfers for the stencil plate etc.
I got a custom set made up by aeroloft for my 91'' Zero & they were great.

She's looking really good Jeff. By the way, here's a shot of our Zero a day or two before she tubbed in after the firewall departed the airframe. I guess that's what I get for having her picture taken! By the way, what's the best method for installing the gun channels in the cowl? I don't know whether to glue blocks to the inside and then dremel them out or do some sort of fiberglass mold thingy. Got any suggestions?

On that model, the gun barrels were actually located in the forward fuse, and protruded just in front of the firewall. The cowl was relieved for bullets to pass thru. If you want to install them in the cowl, I would use goop glue to glue them in the cowl...it will never come loose.
I have the antenna mast on and the rear cockpit deck in green.

Oh man, now you are testing my retentions skills....very cruel Dougy.
I know for sure the green was Krylon satin hunter green, but I cannot recall what the grey was. I think it was winter grey from either Krylon or Rustoleum Painter's Touch brand....but not 100% on the gray.....[&o]

Hey Jeff,
I don't have a 1/4 scale Jap pilot to trade but I need your German guy for my Meister 109. Wanna just sell him? I'm buying!

Dang,
That's looking pretty good Jeff. I just dropped off Phil's engine so he shouldn't have any more excuses to not get that zero up. I can't wait to see you fly her.

Well, I hate to build airplanes, because it seems like every time you build and airplane you are 5 years older....[:'(]
I can't believe I have been working (off and on) on this Zero for 3.5 years, but it is finally ready for maiden. I was surprised to see it took 7.5 pounds of lead in the nose...and that is with a Q-100. Finished weight is 46.5 pounds (46 lbs. 4 oz. to be exact). The plane is finished in Tamiya IJA Grey/Green, clear coated with Krylon Satin. I hand painted all the markings, except the X-151 and 994 on the tail and fuse. I have a Q-100 in it with a Mezjlik 24X12 3 blade prop and Sierra spinner, retract valve and gear, with CBA wheels. Robart tail retract, aluminum riveted gear doors, full cockpit and Meister pilot. Radio is an Airtronics RDS8000 2.4 8 channel, with 10 servos and 2 X 1600 Mah 6 volt nicad packs. I plan to maiden it down in Owatonna this Saturday. I still have some minor details and weathering to do, but that can wait until after the maiden. The blue tape was for marking the balance point
Here are the final pictures:
