Default 3rd annual Harry Gould Memorial Pattern Contest - Hemet, CA May 26-27

The following is the flyer for the Hemet Pattern Contest on Memorial Weekend - come out for a great contest at a great field.

3rd ANNUAL HARRY GOULD MEMORIAL PATTERN CONTEST
Hosted by hemet model masters
May 26 - 27
Sportsman, Intermediate, Advanced, Masters and FAI (P-13) will be flown. Awards to 3rd place in each class. This is an AMA sanctioned event so proof of AMA membership must be provided when registering. Sportsman and Intermediate class will be allowed to fly any AMA legal airplane. $35 for all classes except Sportsman which is $25. Lunch will be available at the field for $5.00 (includes drink). Sodas available for $1.00, water is complementary. Camping is allowed at the field – no hook-ups. Shade covering over complete pit area – and complete runway resurfacing!!! Come see the nicest flying field in So. Cal.
Field is open at 8:am, with pilots meeting at 8:45 – wheels up at 9:00. Sun is an issue here in the afternoon, so we must get things started early. 2 flight lines will be used with contestant judging. If we have 10 or more participants in Masters and/or Advanced, we will split the class for judging. For the last 2 rounds on Sunday, we will offer the F-13 schedule for FAI, but it is not mandatory.

Not sure I will make this one. My Oakdale contest is the weekend after and funds are very short! Hope you all have fun!

We had a fun practice day at the field today. Conditions were really nice and the field is in great shape. I think Bill wants to get things rolling early on saturday so folks need to be there early. We will probably want to get airborne as close to 8am as possible.

To all of you that are participating, please pre-register as soon as possible so I can get the scoring computer set up. Your usual excellent score keepers Mike and Jean will be doing other things this weekend.
As of right now (Tuesday morning), I have 4 Masters, 2 Intermediate, 1 Sportsman, and 3 FAI.

Thank you for your cooperation,
Randy

Randy,

Thanks for stepping up and taking on the scoring duties. Evidently, the pattern guys are not as used to pre-registering as the IMAC guys. Actually I flew in the Hemet contest last year and If they had preregistration I didn't know about if. Hopefully this is just a case of folks not knowing about pre-registration and not indicative of the turnout. I wonder if the big Prado IMAC contest being this same weekend is draining any of our fliers? I hope registrations pick up.

Thanks Ron,

BUT, you may want to hold your applause until Sunday afternoon, scoring could get very ugly. LOL

So Ron, are you flying this year?? Can't fly gliders all the time!!

BTW - I doubt we are losing anyone to the IMAC contest.

What a great day of flying!, We ahd some showers blow thru this morning, just before the contest started, holding us up for about 15 min, after that we were left with some
patchy clouds and cool than normal temp's, some where around the mid 60's and low 70's, and a 8-12 mph cross wind.

We had a total of 28 fliers an we were able to cruise through 4 rounds with no problem, 2 rounds will be flown tomorrow, with FAI flying 2 rounds of F-13.
I would like to give a big thank you, to Bill Wallace and his wife for CDing such a great contest and lunch.

Just wanted to thank everyone involved. Bill Wallace and family, Randy for the fine job scoring, the Hemet Model masters for the great field. We had some challenging weather Saturday and nearly perfect day today making for a great contest.

Big Congrats to my friend and fellow Tailwinds club member Jamie Schoolcraft. He just got back in to flying recently, went to the Bakersfield contest and got hooked again on pattern flying. He picked up Jean Greear's old Evolution and did a great job winning Sportsman. We've gotten a lot of new faces this year at the pattern meets which is great to see!

If you go to Hemet again, check out "Baby Jane's Barbecue". The group had a great time there Saturday.

I'd like to make Oakdale next weekend, but not sure if the finances will allow. But if not then, I hope everyone can make the one-day meet we will be having in Lancaster on June 23rd.

Thanks again for a fun weekend!

I have to second everything Tony said, what a great contest! Bill and Nancy, thank you for the wonderful hospitality all weekend. It was a fantastic introduction to District 7. I had a great time catching up with old friends and meeting news ones as well. I attached a few pictures from Saturday and then Sunday for comparison.

See everyone on the contest trail!

Great contest. Well done Mr. Wallace (and Nancy!!). Randy also needs recognition for taking on the scoring tasks and giving up flying the contest to do so!! Talk about a thankless task. So thanks Randy.

Thanks Bill, nice of you to mention this. However, I would like to turn the attention away from me and point out the true heroes of scoring, Mike and Jean. This is my second year of Pattern and I have no idea how long before that they have been doing the job.

On that note, forgive me if I'm talking out of turn, but I am asking for other people to volunteer to enter scores at the contests. Anyone can learn to do it in just a few minutes. If there could be a team of 4 or 5 people that would spend an hour or so entering scores we could take some of the load off Mike and Jean and help make their experience a whole lot more fun. Believe me, being stuck in the scoring trailer isn't much fun, except when the wind is howling and it's raining and cold, haha. I wouldn't want to see them "burn out" and 4 wheel away from Pattern.

So, any takers?, I think the one day at Lancaster June 23rd would be a great day to start this, and I'm volunteering to teach.

Mike, Jean, any reservations about this idea?

I am working on an app for iDevices that works with an update to Gordon's scoring system to directly download the scores as entered on the iPhone/iPad. Hope to pilot it at Oakdale, I need to work on the FAI handling in the Excel spread sheet just a little bit.

I'm happy to enter scores in the old spreadsheet at any contest I'm attending, just ask!

Jeff,

Welcome to D7! The last I heard you were in North Carolina or thereabouts... where are you now? How's the old man doing? I'm bummed that the Creswell contest isn't happening this year - there were a bunch of us that were looking forward to heading up north to see the McClellalan's and your Dad at the contest and to enjoy the camaraderie there...

Derek,

I moved from South Carolina to Phoenix in December. I hope Dad can get something figured out, Creswell was a fantastic contest!

I love the look of the Bi-plane model called "Insomnia".
It is great to see a fresh approach in design, I think to a certain extent, F3A has slipped into a bit of a design slump in the last few years, any details on how this new model flew?

It flew well enough for Matt Kimbro to win 2nd place in FAI with it. It is his own design. I don't know any other details, sorry. It did look good in the air, but then again, Matt is a very talented pilot who knows how to make the plane do what he wants it to do.
