You can get bearings from Boca and rings from Frank Bowman.

There's a few 56 parts you can adapt to it.

I was looking for the straight pipe exhaust that came with it, to use on my new 56. I also ordered one of the adapter thingies to presumably be able to use a 12mm exhaust..... We'll see.

Rain, rain and more rain, climate change they tell me but records show this happens every 40 years or so starting with floods in Brisbane.  Rebuilt one 65 and am running another in an ARF Bomber up on the table land at Mareeba.  That club has a great field but the height plays havoc with the competition settings o0n the 65 so I am running it as a sort of Texaco / Duration mongrel while getting some much needed practise in.
New 65 to go into either a Flamingo (Jasco version) or a Davies Flybaby, the other one will get the as unrun 62.  The original Gold Knight 56 (one of 2 I got from Hong Kong and as yet un run will be going into a Sig Senorita (Big one) as a first run proof of concept test a/c.  It will have removable firewalls (just like the old ignition engine models of the late 30's) and be used as a trainer and test bed for new / rebuilt engines.  Going to be interesting to see how a 3 channel nominal 40 sized model goes with a "full house wing, (another mod) and a FG 36.  But before that a clean up of the shed is called for with attack dogs in place as I unearth all those unused engines an unbuilt models
Question for the multitude, how many of you have heard of one Gordon Burford and how many of you know what a GB 1 is.  I found one (replica) in one of the draws un run and serialed under 100 (first production run of the replicas Gordon built with Dave Owen
I am looking for open rocker Saitos if any one knows of and wants to sell at reasonable prices let me know.  They will be going into working O/T models

I have a couple 62's and three 56's. As good as the 56's are, I think I like the 62's better.

They are pretty much the same external size but the 62 has the bigger cam and a larger rear bearing. I use a 13 X 6 prop on the 62.

The 62 burns a little more fuel than a 56. Really noticable more fuel consumption than a 50.

Saito 56's go for about 85 bucks on ebay. I bought a brand new one for 130...minus muffler and needle valve....
I will eventually buy a 62 as well...

Hi Cougar, I have/had this plane before and it comes out outrageously tail heavy because of the short nose and fiberglass fuselage. I first had an OS 55AX on it and needed 1.5 lbs ([X(]that's right) over the engine and a Harry Higley brass heavy prop hub to balance the CG. The CG called for in the manual is too far aft by the way, it needs to be 10 mm forward or it will be unstable. It came out at 9 lbs approx... a PIG. It flew ok, but landing was another story.[:@]

Later on, I reconfigured the plane with a Fox 74 and moved it and the cowl 3/4 inch forward. I also moved the battery and throttle servo and mounted them ON the engine mounts to balance. That setup weighed 8 lbs. All that without retracts.

So, a Saito 56 might be too light for this application, even if it produces enough power. You need a lead brick in the front, maybe a big gasser or a 90 4-stroke. Sorry for the bad news!!![&o]

Thanks H, I had therapy this AM and I am at 164 dgrees, almost straight overhead. I am having therapy twice a week instead of three times but heavier and longer.

Here are the weights of the plain .65 and a plain .62, each has its own original muffler and prop nuts and even the same piece of vent tube. Not much to be concerned about to my way of thinking. I'll get the power figures in a day or two.

FNQ took my taylorcraft to the club for a fly this arvo.Huge ballsup re tuning the 182.I leaned the low speed rh carb to much and the bugger kept dropping a cylinder on climb out.Back to the drawing board and more fun next time i spose.Still swinging that big brass hammer?

Gentlemen..I have a question for you.I have a saito 120 single cylinder engine.I took it apart and replaced the bearings after too many flights to mention.When I went to install the camshaft I saw the dot on the gear which I know is supposed to mesh with the crankshaft when the piston is at top dead center ,the problem is you cant see the mark when you install the gear assembly.How do you get it lined up properly.There is very little info that I can find.Thank you,Snowball Waco Brotherhood #59

Old fart I saw a guy do that to a Sato twin at Tingalpa, the bugger nearly took out my Lancer (O/T) when the cylinder let go (to lean, lots of revs), he left the field muttering something about Saito crap.  Back to basics for you.
BTB have you heard about the alternative to the MAAA being formed over here in the east???

I cut a notch in some brass shim stock to slip snuggly over the gear teeth. That holds the cam in time & the jig can be slid out after the housing is seated against the case.

You can also use a xacto blade flat under a tooth and lower the housing.

I took a diameter rod that fits into one of the lifter holes and tapered the end. This fits a hole Saito already has in one cam face and will hold the cam aligned when dropping it down on the motor. If you look from the rear with the end cap off and ensure the crank rod is pointed straight up while dropping on the cam housing it should fall in line.

p.s. I have not had a reply from Rv7garage on his 62. Anyone else have one spare in good condition?
