Hitec 5495 is well priced at $26 bucks with good torque 88oz on 6v, more on 7.4v, and decent speed 0.16sec to boot.

a 5495 would be abad choice for a gas application due to the Karbonite gears. It is also high voltage so it would not be compatible with a 4.8 volt system. A Hitec 645 would work, high torque and metal gears at a reasonable price.

So are you guys saying that 645's has a good reputation on being used on A123 batteries?
Freshly charged A123's, they can reach ....isnt it ... I just measured 7.0 Volts now.
I am trying to decide on a common standard servo for all my warbirds. A strong one also for flaps usage.
I want to avoid the usage of powerboxes and the likes,
So, I'd say, my spec is;
[b]
-Non-Digital
-Strong for flaps usage ; gt. or equal to 9 kg cm ( 133 oz in)
-Can be used on 2S A123 batteries ( Can take 7.2 Volts as a max)
-Very reliable: Last hundreds of flights

If anyone has had a bad experience with the 645s I would love to hear it.. So far, anyone I have ever asked, personally, have said they have never had an issue when they are installed in their Warbirds..

Yep +1 for 645's
i use these for flaps, rudder and elevator on my 96" Spitfire, 98"Vailley Tempest and installing these in a 100"P51.............10kg's of grunt on 6V they are great and centre really well.
I find these are over kill for ailerons so I use a Hitec 635 or JR 509 (6kgs) and have never had a problem

I am planning on using 6.6v LIFE batteries with hitec 645mg's. So far I am led to believe that I WILL NOT need a regulator to prevent burning out the potentiometers. I would appreciate some input if this is correct/incorrect. The 2 cell life is 6.6, the 3 is 9.9. The torque and metal gear is a must.

I just topp'ed up a 2S Life (A123, 6.6 Volt nominal)) and measured the voltage ; It was at 7 Volts. When using it, it will
then drop to 6.6 Volts.
I wonder how many volts a newly charged Nicad or NiMh 6V package is.....(Don't remember anymore....)
I bet a newly charged 6 Volt package is up in the 7Volt level? I hope so, because that would mean the 645
will tackle the 2S A123's at 6.6 Volts, newly charged to 7 Volts...
then drop to 6.6 Volts.

645's will work just fine on any 6V system. If you draw down the battery a little, you can get rid of the spike of voltage on a freshly charged pack if it bothers you. I have run both LIFE and Nicad 6v systems without issue with Hitec servos. The 645 is a bullit proof servo and relatively inexpensive.

Sounds good! I will go for it.
Want to keep everything as simple as possible, and get the advantages of the A123 batteries.
No regulator, no powerboxes. On the receiver, that is.
On the ignition for the engines, I use a cheap regulator that manage 1.5 Ampere.
