3 Blade prop suggestion for a DA-85 on a Warbird?
I plan on using a Da-85 in a future Warbird project, and I am wanting to go with a 3 blade prop for a scale look. I will not use a solo prop, as they are just too expensive, and I never break just one blade. I just broke 2 carbon fiber 3 blade props at Warbirds over Denver and decided to change it to a 2 blade because I can't run a 5 blade on my Spitfire.
What 3 blade props do you run with your Da-85 on your warbirds? I want to target about 120 to 135 mph top speed, so I'm thinking a 12 pitch? I will be using a Jtec wrap around pitts style muffler in the cowl. Plane will weigh about 29 pounds.
Please let me know your opinions with your past experience.
Thanx

I'd go with the Mezjlik 24" prop on a DA85 if I were you. The 3W 23" has a wider blade and seems to not rev up as fast. I had one on my Fox 5.8 and it liked the Mezjlik better. Beila spends too much time getting their 3blades pretty, their not as efficient as the Mezjliks.

Hey Reb,
In checking with the DA folks, they recommended one of their Mejlic 24 x 12 wide props. I've left mine unpainted on the P38 and they still look near scale. I have about 3 other big warbirds with 85's that are going to get Mejlics, but I can't give you a personal endorsement. None of the models have flown. Yet .
Hopes this helps.

Hey langerl...
Are the props you have on the P-38 the normal props or the wide ones? I just ordered the 24/12 from DA today. $115. 00 plus shipping...Ouch.
Looks like I will be flying off grass only, Huh?

Has anyone used a DA-85 on a Yellow P-40?
Is that wrong that just because it fits, I should stuff it in there?

I've run the Mejz 24x12 3-bl prop on 3W 80cc in Ziroli P40. Don't remember the rpm but revs are right up there, so I expect the DA 85 should do well with that prop. My P40 was well in 100mph club and sounded great, not too loud.

I have used both Mejlic and Beila props. I have not seen where the beila underperforms. They also dont have the carbon fiber outside appearance like the Mejlic while also having yellow painted tips like most Allied warbirds would have.
24x12 3 blade beila for $93.

That video was awesome! How fast do you think that Ziroli P-40 was going? 125mph? I guess I will have to really beef up the structure on the Yellow P-40 quite a bit too.
I just got the Mezjlic in the mail. I think I will try a Beila also.
