Default Cowled Saito Question

I've got 5 Saito's now, but this is my first cowled Saito (it's a 100). My question is about the occasional fuel load up after a run, causing a backfire when you try to start them - I know what to do - just pop the fuel line, open the throttle and give it a few spinns and the problem solved. But in a cowl with a fuel filler valve I can't pop the line off. Is there a solution to get excess fuel out of an engine without taking the whole cowl off and taking off the line? I thought about making a hole in the cowl to get a clamp on the line?, or maybe cut an acess door on the cowl to disconnect the line if necessary? Thanks in advance.

Can you get to the plug? take it out and spin it if you can.

Try just opening the throttle full and spinning it over without unhooking the fuel line. Unless it is pumped there wouldn't be enough vacuum at the venturi this way to bring much fuel in but the excess would be spitting out. Or perhaps pull the pressure line off of the muffler while doing this. If it's inverted beware of getting a hydraulic lock and hitting it with the electric starter. Cowlings make it more difficult to inject the ARO and toothbrush clean up as well.

No pump and the engine is inverted. Did a bunch of testing with the cowl off and it runs great, but does have the occasional loading up of fuel problem.

Be sure and leave the throttle at idle and it'll drip less. Or better yet hit your throttle cut switch on the transmitter when you shut the power off on the plane. That way the carb will be completely closed while it's sitting there.

Is your fuel filler valve the type that fits between the tank and the carb and blocks of the carb when you insert the fueling probe?

If so, just insert the probe then spin the engine over, should be the same as removing the carb line.
