Feigao 540xl ???
I bought this motor to replace the stock one in a genesis, as it createred. As far as I can tell, I never over heated it at all, but the coils let go and it blew my Turnigy 180A.
3 years later I got the stock replacment (warranty) ESC, a Turnagy 120A. So I cleaned up the Feigao, and epoxied the coils back in place. It's seems to be running ok, but I noticed that I can not feel the bump bump bump of the magnets like on a brushed motor. I don't ever remember feeling it though.
Should I fell the bump of the magnet on a brushless motor? Is this one garbage?

It's the motors cog. Each motor is different, some feel tough, some don't, depends on the motor (brand, size, kv, wind type ect...) You would need someone that has/had that motor to compare to

Do you own a brushless motor? Can you feel the magnets as you turn the motor by hand?

The 540 XL motors have very little cogging. Very hard to feel. They are a two pole motor & you can usually feel two weak cogs at 180 degrees apart & two even weaker cogs at 90 degrees to them.
You should be able to feel something.

Motors with slotted stators shall cog, motors with ring stators has no cogging, exept for very slight feeling of the remanence of the stator.
Feiago is a ring core motor, and as previously pointed out it shall not cog.

well the good news is, nothing more broke. The bad news is the motor is likely junk. It would some times just jiggle and not spin up very well. Under load it would only go to about half throttle, if you gave it more or full throttle it would just die out. (probably back to the jiggle)
after 3 tries and about 18 seconds of running I brought the boat in to look it over, the motor was pretty warm, the speed controller was at a "just finished a full run" hot, but not too hot , and the wires where hot.
I put it away and ran my Nitro-V-E for it's 15 minute run time.
I thought it may be a timing issue so I pulled out the paper that came with the Turnigy 120A and saw the stock timing was 15* I thought I remembered reading that advanced timing will generate more heat/draw more amps. So I programmed it to 0* but got the same results.
The T 120A acts funny though. Every time I plug it in I have to have the tx at full throttle to calibrate it, EVERY TIME. If I just hook up power it thinks I am giving it throttle and goes into programing mode.
A lot of the time I wish I just had a few thousand dollars so I could just buy a small inventory of parts so I would KNOW how this stuff is supposed to work.
Looks like another summer of old faithful. (my Nitro-V converted to electric)
On a plus note, I snagged one of those "new" GTX3 tx's.
