Default BJ Craft Monolog 110 for 2012

The Monolog 110 was updated with a new canopy design and given a new color scheme for 2012. Our test plane is powered by the Hacker A50-16L and 18-10 or 18-12 APC on 8S. You can also run on 10S with a smaller prop but 8S still has more than unlimited vertical. The plane comes with parts to build the motor box for an electric motor or glow (YS 110).
Retail price $350 and is shipped in a nice compact wood crate

I was able to see this thing up close and personal on Friday. Great looking airplane. The new scheme and canopy forward look is really sharp!

The above pics show a wire landing gear. The early version had a c/f gear. Has that in fact changed?

Currently, yes, it has wire gear, but the blind nuts are still there. Chris is working to get the other gear made available.

Thanks Arch.
Glad that will be available. Just a detail, maybe, but it really does make a difference on a Pattern plane, especially when the rest of the plane looks so good.

I don't know that he has heard back yet for actual availability, but he was definitely checking with them. I'm sure if they don't, getting graphtech or someone else to make a copy is possible.

I have had several emails with the designer, BJ Park and he is adamant that the old landing gear detracts from the flight characteristics of this plane which is why he went with the wire gear. However, he will sell and we will stock the fiberglass gear as an optional item for $50 and that includes new wheel pants, wheels, and axles but he wanted to be sure that we tell people that flight testing by the factory does not show this to be an improvement to the plane (except perhaps looks) and in fact detracts from it.

Hey, Chris. Hope you're doing well after the surgery.
I guess this is better way of communicating with you than emails.

What batteries and size did you use ?  can you be more specific than 8S.

We have 3 fliers in the Chicago area that are building this plane and plan on competing with them soon. I'll kepp it posted with their progress.
I took a look at the plane and it's typical high quality great value stuff that BJ Craft has been doing on all of their planes. Mike Mueller

Any pictures of batteries size and placement ? I am using 10s packs side by side but I do not think they will fit. Is it critical which way packs mount ? Should they be mounted with cells vertical or horizontal, does it matter ?

Maybe long packs would be better.

How many MAH did you use to fly it ?

Thanks

Steve

Having flown both of them, they both fly very similar. They are both good flying planes, especially for the money. They are never going to compete at the top levels with the newest FAI designs, but they were never designed to.

Thanks! Hoping for something in the USA but will keep them on my list in-case I do not find one here. Also, I have only test flown mine, power was provided by a tired old YS91AC ready to fly weight was 7.8 pounds. Not enough power, but since I have upgraded to an YS115 and am waiting on a day without rain and thunder storms for a test flight. Photos of the installation are avaialbe atwww.raikodzigns.com/chopp-n-blok.html

Hope the YS115 will be up to the task.
Could you give me a feedback on gear solidity and kit quality. How was the built ? Manual is very very succinct.
Looking for an affordable pattern plane after years of competitions.
Thx

Gear seem springy time will tell, I think the looks are affected more than the durability.  Construction wise, if you are going with a standard electric or hard mount of a glow engine everything should be straight forward.  But for mine, converting to a Hyde Mound created a few challenges for Raiko Potter with RaikoDZigns.com who actually did the build for me, but all were quickly remedied.  As a side note, check all anti rotation pins and canopy mounting points mine had little to no glue on a couple.  Also, one wing panel had an anti rotation pin for the bolt center bolt mount instead of a wing bolt mount, again quickly remedied.
