So This is a odd ball question however I have been giving this some thought last couple of days.Im sure some of you might modify zenoah engine yourselves or make your own rudders and hardware.I am also looking into this.I was wondering what would you guys suggest as far as lathe/mill combos that would be best suited for making such parts and modifying engines.I was looking at a shop fox m1015 and a m1016.However I dont have any experience with these machines and i am looking to learn.You input would be appreciated.

I bought a lathe in 95, taught myself how to use it.
Lindsay Publishing and Dave Gingery taught me a lot.
I suggest you read first, most of those combination machines aren't what their cracked up to be.
Other wise plenty of folks would be doing it. It's a full time job.

For hobby use, the larger lathe may seem like it's overkill but, as you will quickly find, it's probably perfectly sized for what you're describing. I have a matched set, Sherline 4000 lathe and 5000 series mill. While both do work, the mill has shown itself to be a little small for some parts I've made for scale hydros. I have had good luck with the Grizzly lathe and mill - priced reasonable though a little larger than you have listed. I found each one used locally and priced very well. I have not done as much with them as I would like - but they have worked flawlessly thus far.

Yes exactly I have taken a look at MGB what size lathe/mill would you guys suggest as far as size goes to make some hardware and modify the engines some what.I need someting for this hobby  nothing crazy big just what i need it for.

with the little bit of lathe work i have done the 9"x19" done the trick. That was making hardware for my cats and removing the cooling fins from an air cooled engine to water cool it.

I purchased this one http://www.grizzly.com/products/Guns...h-Stand/G4003G because it had a stand and did not take up bench space and the hole through the spindle is larger because it is a gun smith lathe. I use mine all the time and am very happy with it.
