Orion, I have seen vast differences between different props with supposedly identical specifications. The difference between a SEP 28x14 and a Xoar 28x14 was 500 rpm. Thats a bunch at the lower RPM's we are working with. -Tom

I have the XOAR 22x10 three blade WWII style prop. I believe that is the same the Tom is running. I hope that it will work well.

Lars, They have been backordered and have just arrived so the 7-35 and 9-99 are now available! There was a guy working on a big WACO from Hobby Lobby putting in a 7-77. I wonder if it has flown yet. I just got back from my field and flew the 160 gas a bunch. Lars I need to figure out a nice 7-35 project to do. I am thinking about replacing the electric motor in my Hangar 9 Spitfire with a Saito 100 inline. Electric just does not sound cool. -Tom

I have had 15 flights on it now ,working on cooling fins on the cowling now ,since i have had overheating problems with the cowlin on.
The 7-35 runs much better than the ASP 400 , you dont have to think about glow heating at low throttle. which is an advantage i think

Hi guys.On the Horizon site they advertise the Evo 777 with an improved carb with a split opening.Is there a new carb for the 777?Nice Corsair Steve.I bet the camera man keeps you on your toes.

Hi Maxam,I have purchased the Stinson Reliant SR9 built by Ecomrc,it has a wingspan of 100 inches and is built very light.Its flying weight is listed as 17lb10 oz(8kg) Unfortunately the Saito325 and the Siedel/ums/evo70cc will not fit in the cowl,but the Evo 35cc will fit perfectly.While the takeoff runs would be long and scale like(as in the old days of flying a 12 foot Telemaster powered by a 10cc OS 2 stroke) ,do you think the 35cc EVO at 2.2hp could fly this model(Stinson) without being too underpowered? I also think the 7-35 will be to small to fly a 8 kg plane , it has just enough power to fly my 175cm wingspan pitts ,at around 6 kg (i am not sure about the weight)
Edit: i checked the spec's of my Pitts : 180cm ws. and 7.1 kg
With 100" wingspan i would have used a 325r5 or Evo 7-77 ,and i would not care to much about cut outs in the cowl

I had something a little odd happen today with my Evolution 7-77 radial engine. I am installing the engine into a BH 91" Corsair and while working on the project I notices that some of the valve push rods seemed quite loose, in fact so loose that one of them fell out of the engine along with its cam follower. This made sure that I had to check the valve clearance settings. I found a number of the valves were way too loose. Yes, I checked the valves four times at every two revolutions. Checking and setting the valves took a couple of hours but it was not as difficult as I though it would be. I also checked the glow plugs while they were out of the engine to make sure they all lit up.

Nubee, did you lubricate the valves and rockers while adjusting, the valves maybe sticking which could allow the push rods to fall out?
just a thought. The valve system on the UMS is totally exposed and requires external lubrication.

The PTE-36 and the DLE-55 are two good options. The PTE-36 will make the plane a nice flier. It you want unlimited vertical and the ultimate in over-performance then the DLE-55 is a good choice.

TBM says that 35cc class will fly it. A large scale prop on a radial (bigger than a 2 stroker) should work nicely.
Or get the original specs and see what the Power/Weight ratio is supposed to be.
But like most here. I am still in the building stage with no real world experience.
Think I would discuss it at great length with Tom......but thats just me

This is my first time here,quick introduction ,been modelling a long time,I started with single channel,valves(tubes) and escapements! Enough of that it makes me feel old!! I've just ordered a evo777, my first radial, its out of stock and will be a couple of weeks , I'll just have to be patient.
I intend putting it in my Jungmeister which flies great with a Fuji 50.Its 75" span weighs 18 lbs.What can I expect perfomance wise compared to the Fuji bearing in mind the 777 is a good deal heavier?
I have found a couple of full size Jungmeisters which are flying without a cowl so I'll do the same which will help with CG(the cowl is quite heavy))
.And anyway why spend what to me is a small fortune on a lovely looking engine and then hide it inside a cowl?.
