Buy a spectrum Actuly I don't know whats rong wit your radio, I know on the specrums the switches have to be in certain positions for it to boot up. Could that be it?

RE: airtronics vg4r
Is this the older 72mhz Vanguard VG4R? If so, they did not have a failsafe?
When you say "fail safe" what is beeping? The radio? Throttle stick all the way down? Is the beeping coming from the electric motor or ESC? If so, try reversing the throttle channel? If this is an electric setup, please remove the prop. They do love to cut fingers.
As to buy a Spectrum, I would rather use a 4 channel Airtronics then a Spectrum any day of the week

In the radio support forum there is a manufacturer support forum for the various brands. The Airtronics forum is monitored well and somebody there should be be able to answer your question if somebody here can't.
I'm not familiar with the vg4r radio so unfortunately I can't help there.

Now I see the difference.
Mine are FM, the label is red yours is PCM and blue. PCM has the failsafe, the FM did not come with that feature. I only remember seeing that on the VG6DR radios. I did not know they came in the 4 channel radios.
It was a long long time ago, in a far off world, but I thought there was a procedure you went through when turning it on? You hold a button down, turn it on, wait for so many seconds, then release the button? I just remember the guys at the field doing something when they turned it on. It may have been there own ritual before flight? It was a long time ago, so I may be wrong.
