If all you need is the upper wing plans I'll send them to via post. PM me with your mailing address. Do you have the Flair construction manual?

You can keep those if you wish. Those were my working copies... The orginals were vellum.

Cybertom, Whats up? Hey I am actually getting closer and closer to getting the stearman done. I went back and looked at your flight video and I noticed you flew without flying wires. Is my observation right? If so then that means they are there more for show than function. I thought they were functional.

Charsb,

That was a test flight and I didn't try to push it too hard. When I built up some speed I let the Stearman climb out gently to burn it off. The wires do add strength the way I configured them. That was the only time I flew without them. If you follow the kit the front flying wires are on springs and are useless. Instead of a spring I used 2-pices of piano wire across the front of the fuselage and connected both sides together.

Good to know they are functional. I'll use your suggestion on connecting them together rather than using the spring.

Another question for you: at the trailing edge of the lower wings next to the fuse. How much, if any, space do you have between them?

I have about 3/8" +-.

Hi Cybertom:
Do you still have any of the Nelson Hobbies flying wires that you may want to sell?
If so please let me know and we can transact a deal.
Thanks

I've been out of the hobby for about 8 yr.s Built my first giant scale Stearman from the Don Godfrey Super Stearman sketches back in the IMAA infancy. Man those were the days! A Kawasaki ta51 was THE engine...uhm!? Single conversion am radios, no shielded ignitions...just pray you get only a limited number of glitches before the BIG one takes hold. My first airplane lasted about an hour before total loss of control. I developed my own 25% plans over the years and have built about a dozen Stearmans. I'm now recovering a stocktwo holer, two aileron ship. I have a 4 aileron model like Susan Dacey's (Bob Blackenship's)Stearman 450 Special, haven't flown it in a while, but have a 5.8 twin ready to go and will post something on youtube. My plans are all cad, highly developed with no fiddling with cabanes, interplane struts, etc. It all just fits cause it'sALL drawn to .001". I build the cabanes and interplane struts in a jig, the gear is 4130 tubing. The fuselage is pear shaped in section, just like the "real" ones. The cowling is 11.25" od, to scale for a P&W R985. The landing gear is the correct size, not some punny affair. Airfoil is scale enough and when they fly, everybody stops and watches. Hesitation rolls and hammerheads are like nothing else. Will post some photos, soon!

Hi
I live in Essex and am putting right an impulse ebay purchase, like most things you buy they are never quite what they seem and always have issues you dont see when you buy them.
Anyway I have uncovered the bulk of mu fuselarge and have had to redo the servo install on the wings as the geometry was all wrong but am on the home straight now. im fitting a 45o r3 saito in mine as i need the weight and i had the engine I found the elevator to require quite a high tourque servo. Mine is covered in solatex but I will probably paint it to hide the areas I had had to work on.
Where do you fly?

Regards
mick

Here are some shots of my completed Flair, I finished about 3 or 4 years back. I have still yet to fly this due to the Seidel is not locked in as well as I would like and I have had little time to fly.

Just out of curiosity, Does anyone out there know what the realistic market value of one of these kits is?

Complete and unstarted.

Tom
I hate to ask you this but do you still have the DVD of your Flair Stearman buildvailable? After a 5 year delay I am back building mine and I sure could use a little insight. The question I have (and maybe you can help me here) but I am assembling the box that goes into the left wing that the aluminum spar goes through. I made the box but now they are calling out to use a piece of burch ply (158) and cut 2 wedges to make it easier for the aluminum bar to go through this box. I believe that in the previous steps I did as per the instructions and made the box and now I am confused as to where these 2 wedges go. Instructions say to laminate the wedges but where is a mistery to me.
Any help plus your DVD would surely help.
My email address is [email protected]
I will provide my address and forward the cost of the DVD and postage to you if you can still provide me a copy.
Thanks Alex

I have my Friends Flair Stearman. It's partially finished. He passed away about 2 years ago leaving it to me. He had a construction DVD that was lost in a computer repair.
I too would like the DVD if possible.

Bob
I have not heard back from Tom so at this point I can't help. I also tried sending a note to him directly no reply on that one either. Maybe there is someone within this group that has the cd or their own they would like to share with us, if so please contact us.
I am still willing to pay for a copy of the cd and postage.
Thanks
Alex
