RE: OS AX 46 needs more power
I took my Viper out today and flew it with a master airscrew 9.5 x 6. I was getting right at 17000 rpm static using my 20/20 YS fuel. Airplane seems to be moving pretty good. I bought an old FX 46 off EBay. I will compare the two once I get it.

Lift/shim the liner 0.025 "
Lap piston to liner
Remove the baffle inside the muffler
Reamout the stinger on the muffler, but dont break through
Bore out the carby within reason
Polish the crank flute
Radius the crank flute opening/leading edge
Run the merlin glowbee style plug
Polish the head chamber with scotchbrite to remove any varnish/carbon build up, do the same to the piston top
Cool power 15 - 20% nitro & syn oil - no castor
APC pylon prop 8.8x8.75 balanced
Just for starters -

Get rid of that prop and throw on an APC 9X7 sport prop and it will be even faster.

I don't think the AX has been around 10 years, much less 15.
My experience with both has the FX faster on top end, the AX torquier at lower rpms.

The OS AX .46 is faster the OS FX .46, well documented in our area as we have been racing those motors for somewhere around 15 years.
Ignore your RPM / PITCH calculations, I won a ton of races using a standard APC 10x7 Sport Prop.
A couple of the APC pylon props do work, I believe many of them are using the 9 1/2'' x 8.5 N (Single N, not double NN).
Good luck.

We use to race the FX, when the AX came out both were legal, but it didn't take more than a couple years before people were getting rid of their FX's and buying AX motors to race in our area because it was faster. The trick with it was to use a heavier prop to load the motor in the 14,000 - 14,500 rpm area, both acceleration and top speed were/are superior to the FX.
