RE: Can anyone identify this engine?
Thats a 1980's John Maloney 100 or 125 on ignition. That muffler is home made, the engine came with a bullet shaped muffler with two exhaust stacks that could be arranged to fit any particular cowl. These engines are very reliable, but dont produce a whole lot of power. I needed an electric starter to get mine to start, but it never quit on me once started.

Like Barry sez, need to use a starter with the Maloney. They were not designed to hand start. Nice little engine for its time. The 100s were known to be underpowered, but the 125 worked well for me. Best in a light wing loading airframe, cub, champ, etc. Try to keep radio components away from the magneto.
