RE: Redwing RC 30cc MXS-R build and review.
Just finished the Red Wing MXSR and it's ready for the maiden. Built as light as possible so I am thinking it should fly great.

19x8 Xoar Prop
A123 Batteries
Hitec Digitals
I will post a flight report ASAP when I fly it and a video if possible.

They fly better than they look if you ask me.
Mine has a few mods...smoke...different tanks... And it still flies great the extra equipment and bigger tanks made very little difference.
Oh...hammerheads.....are cool...it will get over the hump quick......
Loving it, and now the weather has turned bad up here

Finally VIDEO!!! Thanks Roger!!!
Still a little nervous with her since she's new but I wanted more just flying than playing. Plus, that light bulb to the left is really bright on a crisp Nevada morning.
Take off run started where I'm standing.....OS 160FX for power so the 30cc gassers should get if off the ground really fast.
Thanks for a great plane Tim!! Well worth every dime.
We didn't have the best video camera, but had a great camera man. One of his stills from the first flight is in the next post.

A still of my first landing......
It was a dead stick because I didn't adjust my motor right. I was about 50 feet up and about the same distance away as I was in the landing in the video and it still landed at about the same speed as the video. This plane holds energy really well. I'm willing to bet I could do the whole Bob Hoover Aero Commander routine with this plane as well as it holds energy. Landed too fast both times. Well we know the gear holds up really nice......
Roger Mayo gets the credit again. The guy is really good. I'll throw in another pic from the same day of my buddy's P-40.
He was the guy standing next to me in the video.
Once again..........
A+++++++++++ TIM at Redwing RC!

Just thrown in because. Video from our float flying by Jim from the front of his Helicopter. He's done some of the events here in town with his heli and it's always sweet.
The guy can sling a heli and fly it nose heave with a camera, but don't let him touch your planes.....
Sorry Jim had to say it........

It's the end of a road in the middle of nowhere......lol
Only had one car....the Storey County Sheriff....came to check out the planes, and a really nice guy.
I got a question about CG..........mine is CG'd by the book, but I'm running a little nose heavy right now until I get a good feel for it, then I'll move the 5 cell battery back to the rudder servo tray and it will be perfect balance by the book. It flies like it's on rails and response is amazing.

Don't need more than 87 ozin really on a 30cc for rudder and ailerons. Have 3305's on the elevators. Never noticed a speed issue with either. I don't use dual rates, so I don't need super fast servos. Used all 3152's on my GP cap 232 27% with no issues at all.
Just too bad a guy named Terry with an ax to grind and a bad attitude shot it down on purpose.

RE: Redwing RC 30cc MXS-R build and review.
You guys are quite a bit ahead of me, I am just getting mine finished up (blue one here). I checked the balance and am quite a bit aft of the recomended 100 mm. Mine is showing about 145 mm aft of the leading edge. I still have the batteries to install in the nose which will help some, but not near enough to bring it forward 40 mm. What are you guys running on your fore/aft C of G? The wing tube sets at approx. 150 mm. and is usually close the the final C of G in my experience. Any help out there?
On the up side, this is one sweet little 30cc airplane. I smile the whole while I am getting it ready, what a quality ARF! Looking forward to winter ending and this girl in the air.

If you're not sure of the cg, which worked for me out of the book, use a cg calculator to find out what that comes out too. There are some online, but I don't have a link sorry.....
This might work out just found it...

No, I am not sure of the cg quoted in the "one size fits all" instruction that I have. Like most chinese built ARF's that is one place that I have found errors in the printed or electronic books. I was hoping to learn from some real field experience.
Thanks for the link for the calculator. I have used that one before, many times to be exact. I find that it is reliable and the results are often quite different than the chinese translations on many of the ARF's.

If you send a message to Tim at [email protected] he's really good about getting back to people. He was pretty particular about a lot of things on this plane, so I didn't hesitate to use the CG provided.
Hope that helps settle some nerves, because you are right about Chinese ARF manuals usually being pretty far off on CG let alone useless to understand.

I set my CG at 5" and it's fine. It's a good starting point. I posted a picture and You Tube link on the other thread for this plane.

RE: Redwing RC 30cc MXS-R build and review.
I bought Savox SC0251MG servos for the control surfaces of the MXSR - they're about 4mm taller than the Futaba servos you used for your ailerons. Do you think there's any way they'll fit using the surface-mount, or should I just plan on going with the hidden mount?

RE: Redwing RC 30cc MXS-R build and review.
Just in case anyone is wondering, the Savox servos will work for surface mounting on the wings, but *JUST* barely. Another couple millimeters and they would leave an impression on the ultracote on the top of the wing. As it is, however, they fit fine.
