Now that is interesting, I would be curious to find out what caused it to fail? Vibration? Defective metal? Is this the only torque link that has failed on your model?

The other torque link has a crack starting in the same area but has not broken.I have ordered 2 more and sent a picture to Robart.
It will be interesting what there reply will be.
I have looked at most of mustang threads and have not seen this problem.
The retracts are approx 2 years old but the plane only had its maiden flight 4 weeks ago, so only 3 flights total.
The problem is that the cracked area allows the wheel to extend further causing the wheel to jam in the wheel well.
Allan.

Hey guys. Getting ready to maiden my Mustang. Weather has been bad here. How much down elev. do you program in when flaps are deployed or if any is needed? Can you land w/o them? Will it porpoise with flaps in full position with no down elev. programed in?

No down elevator is required. The ship will just slow down when full flaps are applied. Be sure to keep a little power on all the way to touchdown to avoid bouncing. One the mains touch, cut the power and you will have a sweet 2 point laniding. Good luck!

I have the robart air setup. The robart popup gauge is under the canopy. When the wheels are in the down position on the tarmac, when airing up, the gauge doesn`t work. but, when you hold the plane and make the retract go in the flight up lock position, then the gauge pops out and works. Going to 100psi? This is the way the guy i got it from had it set up but this seems backwards?

So they say that all planes have an expiration date.......
Well it is a really sad today.....
My beloved P-51 (pictures on page 88 toward the bottom) went in hard for a total loss.
We had a Military Fly in today at our local club and I was flying the last flight of the day (literally) along with two other P-47 and a P-51 60 size in some what of a formation.
During one of the turns I looped but when I came down from the loop with low throttle I got really close to the three line and pulled hard on the elevator to clear the three.
Well we all know what happen to a war bird slow and low.
I froze on my throttle stick and increased the elevator pull. Bad mistake on my part that cost me the plane.
Lesson learned (twice now) do not let this bird get slow under any circumstance. It will stall straight into the ground.
Now I need to decide if I want to glass the new one again or just buy the arf and live with the wrinkles.

Sorry to hear that doomkink. You had some amazing rivet detail. Anything to salvage? Engine? I will remember that on the throttle. I will keep my speed up. Did you have a 22-12 prop?

Valve, your pressure guage needs to me in the line coming off of the tank. It appears that the person who installed the system placed it in the line off of the valve in the reaction side plumbing. Simply remove it from that line and place it as the folloeing diagram shows.

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
I just started my assembly on my p-51....I have the wing done (minus the gear covers).. I am just starting the fuse tonight after work....I am mounting a DA50r w/wrap around mufflerin the mustang (have a G62 but I thought the DA would be better)...where can I get the standoff extensions? Are there any build mods that are needed? I just found this thread this morning and havent been able to read every page, ont want to get fired LOL...Anyone have photos with the DA Mounted.... The only issue that I have had so far was the trailing edge of the wing not seating all the way in the saddle which may make the radiator scoop sit higher than I would like almost 1/4"....Any help with tips would be greatly appreciated!!!!...I have not done any mods yet

I Have noticed the grain running vertical in the landing gear boxes..Could they have fixed the previous issue with the spar webbing?

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
Ok. Did two first flights today went great. Take off with no flaps. I let it run way down the runway and until it was ready, then it lifted nicely with a little up. In flight she wanted to climb, so i had to put some down trim and a little left aileron, for a slight right roll correction. Did great. I came in too hot on the first landing with half flaps and bounced a little. The second landing with half flaps i made my approach and went a little above idle and it floated in better than i thought it would for the weight. It greased in. I got cocky and did some low WOT passes and some slow single victory rolls. The peanut gallery loved it. Thanks for all the pointers on this forum, guys.
Before the 3rd flight check over i found one of my elevator CA hinges broken on the inside. I had just redone both elevator halves before these first two flights. It was not worth the risk, and put up for the day. The factory calls for CA hinges and i made them wide, but one still split close to the horn on the inside. I think i`m going to go with the Robart hinges this time. 1/8 size? I am going to cut the covering on the movable side of the elevator and put some wood blocks to give the hinges more to bite into. This will be my first time installing a Rebart type hinge.
Any ideas? what do yall have on the tail?

Is 3/16 too big for the elevator? Doesn`t look like there is enough wood for them to bite too. Did you add some blocks? Thanks.

I decided to take everyone's advise and opened up the bottom of the wings of my brand new ARF only to find that rear shear webbing is NOT vertical and was lacking sufficient glue.

By doing the wing mod you will save yourself from the landing gear ripping out
I have done mine as per page 51 and after 5 flights with a bounce or two the gear is still solid

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
Has anyone got a picture of their choke set up when using a DLE 55.
A present I have a hole in side of cowl and activate choke lever with a screwdriver but is sometimes hard to find lever as I saw this process in a youtube video.
I dont want to add a servo so want to add a mechanical linkage
Any info would be appreciated.

I used a bellcrank and two short pieces of 4-40 rod. From the choke linkage, one rod goes forward to the bellcrank, the other goes down from the bellcrank even with the front of the cylinder head. It sticks out the bottom of the cowl about 2". Push up to start. Pull down to run. Very simple.
