Thanks VJ,
The plane was a joy to fly. The only trim adjustment needed was down elevator. I did not have to touch the aileron's or rudder. Always a good feeling when a plane fly's straight and true showing you built it straight. I have to work all weekend and the weather is going to be crap here anyways. I will get the skid mount repaired and fly it again the following weekend. I need to get some more flights on it before the Fly-in on May 6th. Don't want to make a fool of myself in front of a bunch of people.

I went to the local H/S and bought a new prop for my Cub and went ahead and bought a Xoar Beechwood 18x8 for the Fokker. The engine did not unload like I had hoped with the 20X8. Once I get the proper size and pitch figured out I will order a Xoar Axial prop in that size. I also picked up material to make streamers and a scarf for the pilot. Hopefully the wife does some sewing while I am working tomorrow.

I hope to fly the Fokker again next weekend.

Scarf Tip: cut it long and use a very small white/clear wire tie to hold it in place. If you tie a knot it gets too bulky around the neck.

BTW: Today is the 94th anniversary of Manfred Von Richtofen's death.

I just so happen to be a manufacturing engineer at an aerospace company in Cincinnati and we are doing work for Rolls-Royce Deuschland. Their manufacturing facility is the old Oberusel plant. They have an Oberusel Museum on site and I will be traveling there next month on a business trip. One of the RR engineers was telling me they have pictures on display of Richtofen visiting the factory to select the engines he used in his Fokkers. I will see if I can get some pictures of the items in the museum while I am there.

I made the stramers for the DRI. They each have Del's name on one side and his login name (Deljon) on the other. Should make for a fitting tribute to Del at the Fly-In on the 6th.

Hopefully the weather will permit some more flying this weekend.

The wife broke out her sewing machine with a little bit of prodding
She made the scarf 1" wide and I think it turned out pretty good. Hopefully it shows up on the low slow fly-by's.

I ran the engine with the 18x8 Xoar Beechwood prop. 7500 RPM's with this prop and the engine seems much happier. If this combinations fly's better I will order an Axial prop next week.

Anthony great job with the scarf! Both you and the wife have talent. It is nice that she has something tocontribute to your planes. Very nice touch on the streamers......

The weekend of flying went well.
Again I was only able to get one flight on the DRI due to the tail skid mount coming loose. I just completed the repairs on the mount and it will not come loose again. If it does it's taking the last 6" of the fuse with it.

The Memorial Fly-In for Del was great and I am glad I attended. He sure had alot of friends. At one point there were 9 Fokkers in the air at once as a tribute to Del.

Here is a pics of my DRI on a Fly-By with the struts streamers.

Today was PM day for all my planes. I spent the whole day going over the DRI, 1/3 Waco and !/3 Cub. Also spent some time figuring out how to fit them all into my 6x12 trailer. My wife is going to start making me some wing bags tomorrow for the Waco. My plan is to take all 3 planes to the field Saturday for a full day of flying.

Hi VJ,
Yes I joined the Clinton Model Aviators. They are a relatively small club with approx 35 members. The airfield is a nice well manacured 650x50ft grass strip with 2,000ft run-off onto a full scale grass strip. Evidently they are not too picky on who they let join.

I will take some pics Saturday from the club field.

DRI Update,
The tail skid mount repair worked really well. It seems I have nothing but rough landings with this plane. On the last flight I put on the DRI I bent the main axle at the left wheel. I would higly recommend upgrading to a 1/4" axle over the stock 3/16" supplied.

The motor started running a little rough on the last outing as well. I pulled the cowl and checked everything out and all seems well. I started the engine and adjusted the high speed needle for max RPM/7900. The engine has about 1-1/2 gallons of fuel thru it so a needle adjustment was probably in order.

The axle has been straightened and I will be taking the DRI to our Club Fly-In this weekend for another workout. I need to learn to bring this thing in under a bit more power and fly it to the ground.

Well my DRI went in Fathers Day weekend due to a rudder control horn failure, take my word for it the DRI will not fly without the rudder hooked up. The plane was at approx 200ft of altitude and started a violent left hand downward spiral that just got worse with up elevator input. At about 100ft of altitude I resided to the fact it was going in and just reduced the engine to idle and lsitened for the impact. The plane dropped into a woods across from the field and managed to miss any trees and hit nose 1st into very soft dirt. The fireall was pushed back apporx 2" and the top wing took the most damage of the 3 wings. The bottom wing only suffered a broken strut mount and the middle wing has a broken spar in the right panel.

The landing gear wires bent as well as the cabane wires. The sub wing was undamaged and will be used again. The front end of the fuse is a bit of a mess but repairable. The only problem in the aft end is a broken bottom left longeron which broke just behind the bottom wing saddle.

After having the plane sitting around for a few months I have decided to pull it out for a rebuild. I have a feeling the repair will take me longer than the original build[&o]. If there is enough interest I will post the rebuild.

Here are a few pics of how the plane looks now. The 1st thing I am going to do is strip all the fabric and inspect everything and make a list of what needs fixed and what parts need to be ordered from Balsa USA.
