RE: AMPS hulls & outboards pics& tips
Wow - Now I have a problem
I was not looking to make significant money out of these - just was looking that they go to a good home - now I have the problem of who should I send them to as there have been so many people expresing an interest.
I will check on shipping costs as they may be high because of the size of the boats and post the results which may change things.
Perhaps the fairest way is then to put them on the sites market place.
Any other ideas would be welcome
Regards
Bob

RE: AMPS hulls & outboards pics& tips
Actually it was originally made for the prototype outboard which was made from sheet aluminium and brass fabrications. I think I have a photo - will try and look it out, I may even have the actual proptype outboard in a box somewhere.
The Milesmaster was first moulded in about 1977. This is the second hull out of the mould which was used for photos.
Regards
Bob

I think between you and SK1 you will work out the right homes for these. It would be a shame to see these go to a place where they shouldn't or wont get the respect they deserve. If only there was a model museum!!

Hey Bob remember the first outdrive that you produced, the one you sold
in the UK that was painted white, I still have the one I purchased from you
when I lived up in Scotland back in the mid 1970's, it has never been run.
I also have one of the newer outdrives that I never found a suitable hull for.
The red hull, I think it was called he SX100 (the 4th pic in ones you posted)
was the hull I bought back them also, but never got to run it and when I moved
back to the US I couldn't bring it with me. Great to see that you are still active
since your move back to the UK.

This looks awsome with the twin setup. I'm planning to build two off the latest 2012 X-cat models with OS XM twin setup.

RE: AMPS hulls & outboards pics& tips
Hi I'm new to the forum and new to rc boats> recently purchased a Formula 402 sr1 the full sized version, and while researching info on the boat I learned about the amps international hobbies version and basically had to have one.I picked up a hull with the open cockpit design on ebay needs alot of work but looks solid, and found a pair of amps out drives they should be here next week. I plan on just playing with it around the dock and out on the lake, not racing it. I have read some about engines with clutches and that sounds like the direction that would be best, Not to say I don't want speed and sound cause i do. so my initial questions are what would be the best way to remove the existing paint on the hull, it's primered, color coated and clear coated, do i sand it or can it be chemically stripped. Whatwould be good engine =clutch set up to start lookingfor. Will get some pics up soon.
Thanks for any input

If you have a Lowes near you ,Peel Away 6 is not a harsh paint remover ,but will remove multiple layers at one time.It doesn't have a bad oder and won't hurt your skin or clothes.I 've used it on a few polyester fiberglass hulls and it is made not to hurt the gelcoat.Just spread it on thick ,about 1/8" and cover it with plastic kitchen wrap and let sit over night.Take the plastic off and start scraping it off with a plastic putty knife.Any residue can be washed off with a brush and running water. http://www.lowes.com/pd_168188-565-6032_4294729354__?productId=3549094&Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&pl=1¤tURL=%3FNs%3Dp_product_qty_sales_dollar%7C1&facetInfo=

Including the Air Vents, Dash Panels, Cleats, Bollards, Depth Sounder (fish finder), Compass, Straight Railing Stanchions which use 1/8" Stainless steel rod for the railings.
Here's a couple of shots of them and the way they where intended to look on the model.

That chainsaw engine is still rotating clockwise, limiting prop choice. If they would have turned it around like near the bottom of this page http://www.modelpowerboat.com/conten...cool-an-engine the rotation would be counter clockwise. The exhaust would have to be run around or over the engine.Probably wouldn't hurt performance since their using what looks like a lawnmower muffler.
