RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Frets great to be back !!!! Life has taken me on some many weird twists and turns but im no worse for wear lol
In my absense ive perfected the scale exaust for this bird and managed to fabricate a cowl with functional hinged metal flaps , both of which i can duplicate for maas production in a kit form , ill post some pic once i get back in town , depending on feedback from you guys ill put something together
Stay tuned !! Lol.
On another note being ive been out of the mix for almost a year now , whos has a new zero out or plans for one whats tbe skinny manufacturer wise ? Esm kmp ? Anybody got plans for bringing one out ? About a year ago i spoke with andrew via email where he informed me that one was in the works navy m2 with folding wing tips , has anyone heard anything re this rumor ?

Only that ESM has one in the works really....enough for me to wait and see for now. I figure if I got the CMP version, it would take me until then to fix the gear, find a replacement canopy ect lol. I think I'll just hope and wait.
Good to see you back Zero!

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Thanks guys.
I wish I had remembered to snap some pics during the build up as it was actually not nearly as complex as it looks. It just went so fast I never thought to pause for a pic.
I drew up a simplified three view (from numerous google image searches) focusing on the atributes that were most prominent and easily modeled. Once I got out into the shop and started cutting balsa and .5mm lite ply it just fell together. The hardest part was acurately cross drilling the 1/2 plastic tube and some piece of stray 1/8 plastic tubing, then cutting the straight pins to a uniform and correct length to center the inner ring, followed by trying to hold that tiny sucker in place to glue it up.[:@]
The pics really don't do it justice as they make it seem to have much more chipping and flaking than it really has and the lines and detail are lost in the darkness of the overall black color.
If anyone is interested I can upload working drawings and sketch-ins that came up during the process. They are just pencil so may not come through too well.

........you are talking about the gun site right? Lol
Wish I could have it all fall together like that....my projects take so long I can develop my own film and grow my own balsa lol

Now I am officially finished with the fuselage until time to finish the paint scheme and weather the whole plane.
Cockpit was the last detail for the fuselage. I chose not to do a full cockpit at this time though I may revisit it in the future and scale it out. I am using a head and shoulder pilot bust so I made up a mounting plate for him with just the top of his seat as well.
Headrest and loop antenna are also installed now and I riveted the top of the dashboard. I'm going to use the original canopy to start off with and install the "dionysisbaccus" upgrade canopy after I've flown it a few times just in case of nose overs as I get some time on the plane and dial in the CG.

Three different books, plus Roaring Glory video ... no landing light.
Vewy stwange, given there's the "typical" landing light on other Japanese planes of the same period.
Perhaps contact the Planes of Fame folks in Chino, and tell them what you're up to:

Yep, I've poured over dozens of pics and details of the usual areas where a light might be found and just wanted to double check with the other Zero afficiandos that I hadn't gone stupid and just missed it. I don't recall seeing one on the BF/ME-109 Messerschmitt or the FW-190 Focke Wulf either....."vewy stwange" indeed!!

Really nice work on the Zero Frets, your going to love that Saito 200Ti too, It sounds awesome !!, be sure to re tune after run in though as they have them set really rich at the low end from factory and you will eventually start getting a cylinder fouling.
Cheers.

Thanks PSJDBF,
It looks like I have good company here with all those who have inspired me to step this one up a notch with their efforts. A lot of really nice bashes have been posted and the latest entry from tomandjan really looks good, I'm looking forward to seeing more of that one.
I really fell into a good deal on the FA-200ti. I had hoped that the ASP FS-400 or my FA-170r3 would have fit the cowl but it would have required all of the heads/valve covers to stick out of the cowl for either one.[&o] While I was considering whether or not I could stand that or just put my FA-150 in it I saw and heard an Enya v-twin at our field and really liked the sound. Had an opportunity pop up on the saito v-twin so I did some checking up on it and liked what I found. I am already a fan of the Saitos so it wasn't hard to fall into deep lust for it right away. It's just temp mounted with nuts, bolts and washers right now so I'm looking forward to taking it out sometime soon to fit the blind nuts in the firewall and whilst I have it out I'm going to run a 1/2 gallon or so through it on the fence post...My nieghbors are going to luv that one
cheers all!

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
It's been kind of slow here lately; both in this thread and on my bash.
I found that the gunsight that I had previously done had some problems with being overall a bit too large and especially that the front ring was too big and too far forward to fit well because of the angle of the front windscreen. So...I built another one. I could have easily modified the old one but I had some new ideas and quite frankly, I'm just really avoiding the epoxy glassing of the wing. I've tried other methods of glassing and although they were easy and less messy, they just haven't measured up to the durability of a resin job. I have cut in the panels for servo access in the wing as well as mounted and rigged the flap servos, control rods and hinges too. Came out quite well and I made use of existing scale lines so I am quite pleased.
Had a moment of inspiration(and wing avoidance) and whipped up a fun addition to the new sight...totally impractical but fun just the same. Also remembered to take a few shots of the assembly.
