RE: WACO YMF
Tmac, the piano hinge I'm using is Brass colored metal with a metal rod. I haven't been abler to find aluminum hinge here.
Errol, yes I did receive those hinges in the kit. But in building scale the full size plan uses piano hinge and i' duplicating it for scale, most all in their build have changed to piano hinge.

I sent one of the decal sheets from the kit to them. When I ordered my graphics I told Cal-Grafx there would probably be strong demand for graphics for this model. When I received my graphics, I sent them a message advising that I would advertise their product on this forum. I expect that if you e-mail them and ask about a set of decals for the PICA 1/5 scale WACO YMF-3, they will be able to quote a price from the files they created for mine.
Good luck,
Jim

What scale was the plane mentioned in your post on Cal-Grafx? What did they charge you for yours, if you don't mind my asking?
And do you have the URL for their web site, assuming they have one?
Thanks,

RE: WACO YMF
Brothers, Are any of you still experiencing the problem of opening your email link to the waco ymf forum? I'm still having to go completely around to get here. I have filed a trouble ticket, but still no help. If anyone else is still having this problem we need to fill out more trouble tickets so this issue can be resolved. Problem has been here for more than 3 weeks now. I'm not very computer savy so if someone else can explain the problem to rcu maybe it will get resolved faster. I know its not my computers. Its happenong on both of them. Thanks, George

It's a BVMF-86. It's the 60" size before he went to the ARF or giant scale version. As of now it's still a hanger queen. I love the plane and put a lot of time into building it. Ihave another kit on the shelf Iintend to build one day, maybe after Ifinish my WACO. As of now, the place we used to flyour duicted fans at is off limits for awhile.

Re my decals from Cal-grafx:
My plane is the 1/5 scale YMF-3. They charged me $67.50, including mailing, mostly, they said for the required computer design time, which is now done. Their URL is http://www.cal-grafx.com/

Thanks for the info,. Iassume that you got the vinyl single color graphics. Were they able to do the pinstripes that are on all WACOmarkings ?

I built a Pepino Waco several years back and it turned out to be a beautiful plane. I never flew it and donated it to the Waco Museum in Troy Oh. I commend you for taking on the build. If you can build that plane you can build anything. Post some pics when you can.

Cal-grafx replicated the decal sheets that came with the kit. The large "N numbers" are conventional slide-off decals with very thin black outlines on the white figures. See photo below. All of the other graphics are white vinyl with very agressive adhesive. I'm sure Cal-grafx can provide other features if you want and will pay for them.

Jim,
Nice looking model! I'm surely going to check them out.
Did you use the aileron plastic "covers" that came in the kit? I"m still tring to decide if I want to use those corrogations or try something else. Yours looks pretty good!
Thaks for your infol.

Yes, I did use the plastic aileron covers that came with the kit. I searched for the SIG plastic corrugated sheet suggested in this forum, but could not find them. The plastic parts were a bit of a pain to blend and fill to achieve smooth edges with the balsa, but they turned out pretty nice.

Ihad suspected that would be a problem (blending them to the surface). How did you attach them?CA? Had you applied any type of prep to the balsa before adding the plastic? Iknow. A lot of questions, but it all helps to avoid any mistakes that may have been made before by someone else.

Joe:
I used medium CA to attach the aileron covers to the balsa sheeting. I did not use any prep on the balsa. They seem to be securely bonded in place. I did not attempt to inset them into the balsa, but simply sanded both the leading and trailing edges to a bevel, then filled the open ends of the corrugations with lite filler.

You can correct all these problems but I suggest you check everything before cutting any wood.
