Changing the subject back to... well... the subject... VJ, have you considered what engine you will be using to replace the DLE20? I would really like to see one that will fit "under the hood". So, any ideas?

Take care,
David

I have a Evolution G26 Gas burner under the hood on my L-4. The plane is around 17 pounds. Power is great I can fly it scale but also has a little extra power to use if needed. This fits total under the hood except for the plug. Now for the issues I have. The carb sets in front of the engine like a glow. It is the standard big carb as most gas engines. This blocks what little air that comes thru the holes in the front of the cowl. With that said this runs hot when it is coweled in. with this said, I have just built from 1/64 ply a shroud from the side and have a small pc fan mounted to blow air across the head. This is a 5 v fan so it will run off of my 4 cell ignition pack. I have yet to give it a try, hope to try it this weekend due to a event at our filed next weekend.

David, I have been looking at the DLE30 for a possible fit of course that is going to mean some firewall movement . Oh well just more work. I haven't repaired the wing tip yet. Going to tackle it this winter. Right now I have a new build on my table (Sig Ryan STA) which has really gotten me out of my funk so to speak. Here is the thread if your interested in checking it outhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11208903/tm.htm

CubMan.....  What tires do you have on the Cub you just posted a photo of?  They look like 1/4 Cub tires and they look like they may be air filled / soft.

Thanks,

SunDevilPilot they are a set of the good old dubro cub wheels. They are air filled. yes I have to pump them up a couple times a year but love then 10 time better then the foam version. `Keep an eye out on ebay for them. Wish dubro would bring them back!!!!!!!!!!

Im jealous!

I have a set of 6" Dubro "balloon" tires that Dubro renamed "Tundra Tires". I was having ground handling problems with them on so I removed them and installed the stock foam Dubro 1/4 Cub tires. The handling problem was corrected but they are foam and wear rather quickly doing long touch-n-goes on asphalt.

Thanks for the info!

I had Dubro foam filled tires on my 1/4 Cub and they did fine but I was always flying from grass. I also have them on my 1/3 Cub.

I have my planes loaded in the trailer and I will be spending the day at the field. I haven't flown the 1/3 Cub for about 2 months, time to get some air under it wings.
Later!!

I'm seriously considering the DLE30 as well. Pretty sure the plug will hang out but hey, it'll keep the plug cool. I've already moved my firewall back, I'd just have to put a hole in it for the carb.

Now all I need is some money....... DOH!!!!

SunDevilPilot, Dubro still sells the J-3 Cub air up valve treaded tires/wheels/cub hub cap. You will have to call them direct as they cannot advertise them or sell through a dealer because goodyear had a dispute with them over putting the goodyear name on the tire. I bought a set some time back by calling them about a set. I just bought a set on ebay a couple of months back for my H9 J-3. They work so much better on landings to soften it out along with the bungee gear.

Thanks,
Eddie

SunDevilPilot, I called Dubro about the 1/4 cub air-up tires/wheels/hub caps set. He said they had a few sets left and when they are gone thats it- no more. He said there was no dispute with Goodyear on that product, they just started making the foam products which are lighter which he said everyone wants lighter.

He said the pricing would be the same as the 1/4 foam set.
Thanks,
Eddie

I just finished up a prototype set of bungee covers for my Sig 1/5th Scale Cub. I would like to find some vinyl type material when I make a set for my 1/4 Cub.

The covers slip over the bungees then the ends are cinched down with small zip Ties. The zip ties can be replaced when the bungees need servicing. The o-rings and rubber bands really take a beating when they are fully exposed.

The covers are wide enough to allow for the movement of the bungees as the bumps are absorbed by the gear.

Once I make some for my 1/4 Cub, and determine the dimensions, I will make some extra for you guys with the Robart Gear.

SDP,
I made a set for my 1/3 from Black Nylon. I do not have to worry about O-rings as my gear has springs so I used 1/16" elastic cord sewed into the ends to tie it to the gear legs. The nylon is flexible enough to give it a more scale look on the gear.

I ordered two pair of the air filled Cub Tires.

Thanks again for the info on how to order them.
