Kmot,
In one of your June 1989 photo it looks like there is roof on every table in the pit area??? Is that what it is??? At present are those roofs still there for every table??? I went there at the 2012 L.A. Jets and I don't remember the roofs on every table.....but those super shady trees are super nice with the moisture the leaves release to cool the air under the branches. It really has that nice cooling effect. 'Nuff said.

The roofs are over the picnic tables just inside the fence. The "pits" tables are 4x8' benches with no roofs.
But yeah, the trees provide plenty of shade for them as well.

Oh!!! I did not realize that those were picnic tables..........my bad..........I thought those were part of the pit/worktables. I have been there many, many times but I did not realize those were picnic tables. Goes to show that I was paying attention to the RC planes and not the furniture. Again those super leafy trees are amazing. The shady branches stretch way, way outside the trunk and it is like a giant umbrella. Thanks for the heads up info. 'Nuff said.

True,, who ever picked that species of tree was a genius

Growing up in so cal I didn't really appreciate the trees,,, living here in Ohio now it is amazing to watch the transformation each year,,, as son as it gets hot in about early June, the trees are in full foliage to provide shade, as soon as it cools off the leave are gone so the sun can make it to the ground, It's a true Miracle of Nature

When I started flying at the Basin in '74 there was no shade and no trees IIRC.

John,
That is absolutely FANTABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! Must be a good workout for the plane and the leg muscles whenever you hit the Apollo Flying Field. A very nice combo.

The Th is an Electric Fun Fly. The BBQ Fun Fly is on Sept. RD. There seems to be a lot of confusion this year about the date. As to why, it's a mystery to me.

Simply fantastic, probably the best vid I have seen from the Basin. Makes me want to go get one of these birds [8D]

Well done to all those that flew, and to the editor for putting these shots together to give us all a look at something fantastic happening at the field.

That's a cool video! I like the field so much better now, too, with all those monster weeds burned down to the ground.
