Default ESM SEA FURY 80

It's Christmas in August. The UPS man finalluy showed up today with my long awaited new project. I was hoping to add this beast to my fleet but unfortunantly the heard was thinned after my ESM Corsair decided to become a Kamkazi and do a nose dive into the field... Any way out with the old and in with the new. I decided to build the ESM Sea FURY with a DLE 55RA and Century jet Retracts. I can tell this is not going to go according to plane already. For starters UPS did a crappy job with the shipping. The box look like it was druagging behind the truck from Florida to Cali. Thankfully nothing appears to be damaged so far...... Lets get started.... But before I do I do I had to get the old lady something to keep her quiet...lol

The CJ KMP Retracts will not work for this. I recieved them from CJ the other day and they are waaayyyy to small. They will only accomadate a 3in whell. The seafury wheels are 4.5in. In addition the mounting points are for a 60 size plane. I'll send them back to have them replaced. Bummer... Cant finish the wing without them. I see they have the measurments posted on tbm so I'll send CJ the measurments. Here a few pics of the build so far...

Oh thats perfect. There is so little information available on this model right now, i dont know why people are not posting anything. in any case i look forward to getting mine. i have ordered it unpainted so i can do a custom paint job

Also, just for info. ESM will soon be releasing an 80'' span A6m Zero and a 80'' span Mig3. i would love both but i have ordered the Mig as my ESM La7 is on its last legs now and i do like the russian fighters. I also have the ESM P39 which is almost ready for test fly.

wow, that is for sure, alot of photos! and the model looks great i have to say, do you have any video? and what was the flying weight?. as for getting them unpainted you would need to have a chat with the importer. im not sure where you got yours (tbm?) but in the uk i have a good relationship with the importer and he will order the models unpainted. there is no cost advantage its just i get to paint it how i want it. Also any mods or damage can be hidden away better. Anyway, below is a photo of my ESM P39. the model is almost ready to fly.

and this is my ESM La7 having a thrash about (my poor camera man didnt know what i was going to do so had trouble keeping up!)

No video yet. I'm hoping to get some this coming week. It's flying about 21lbs as of now. It's a lil nose heavy. I balanced it at 130mm. The manual said 145mm but to move it forward from that point. I use steel powder mixed with epoxy on the inside of the cowl. That was a mistake!!! It was too much weight for the cowl to hold. I normally land and do a spot check 3-4 minutes into my maidens after trimming the plane out. When I landed I notice the cowls weight was causing it to be eaten away by the screws holding it up. Since I used epoxy and steel it's rock hard and hard to remove. I ended up ordering a new cowl so it will maintain a clean look. There's a guy with a video of his maided on YouTube. He said he added 3lbs using 145mm cg to balance it. I added 4lbs at 130lb. I'm going to go to 145lb to reduce the weight...

Nice looking bird!!!! That's a beauty!!!!

If i can get the radial to fit i very much doubt i will need weight in the nose. Which engine is in your fury as 2 different engines seem to show up in the photos!

As for the La7 the engine is a Laser 300v twin.

I wanted to put a dle 60 twin in it but it wouldn't fit. Originally I had a DLE55 side exhaust in it. Before I could actually mount it they came out with the DLE55RA rear exhaust with Pitts muffler so I switched engines...

ahh ok. well the dle is 123mm tall (without the plug and plug cap) and the saito 450 is 250mm dia so is 125mm tall. From your pics it looks like the dle is totally hidden? or at least only a few mm showing. with that in mind i can always cut the cowl for the saito rocker covers and squeeze it in. the only issue is moving the firewall back by 30mm, i dont know if there will be enough space. If not then another Laser 300v could be used, or i may go nuts and use a 360v

That would be an awesome flying bird with a 360.... I have a few measurements for you. It's a bit hard to measure the inside diameter because I poured the steel powder and epoxy inside of it. I was able to measure these things. I ordered a new cowl due to the steel epoxy making the cowl too heavy to stay mounted securely. It should be here on the 26th. When it arrives I can get you better inside diameter measurements...
Firewall to outside edge of the cowl : 6 3/8
Firewall to inside of the cowls edge 6 1/8
rear diameter of the cowl is 9 3/8

Thanks for that. it seems the cowl is smaller than the dims i was given on a drawing by the importer. They claim its 250mm and your measurements show it as 240mm at best....hmm i best get working on a laser i think! what i will do is see what happens when the model arrives. if you could measure the new cowl that would be handy. Also to make sure the gills dont confuse the issue could to measure top to bottom please?

As for the 360 i know for sure the model would be over powered, my La7 is 18lbs and the 300v pulls it with no problem at all. but...the 360 will turn a nice big prop...hmmm. i will see when i get hold of the model

Its the uk importer, the kit was due in april but keeps being delayed. I have my theories as to why they are delayed but it would be inappropriate to discuss them. In any case im kinda annoyed with yet another delay so i am tempted to cancel my order.
