RE: giant scale tri-pacer
I do hope you will share your BNT build pictures , and the results of your mods. I will try to help you if you need a second opinion - and Mr. sebo has knowlege of the BNT and has helped me in this build . you can see that I have built a full airframe inside the outer skin to accommodate a 40 size engine ...I will add more to this message to you later ...I'm excited for you already ... cheers back at ya ......Richard

RE: giant scale tri-pacer
Hello Richard,
Yes i will be posting pictures and will probably start a new thread on the BNT build, there won't be too many mods on mine basicaly the tailplane and grafting the wing to suit. when the plans arrive next week i will spend some time eye balling the nose because if i need to make any changes to it they will only be minor and what is nessecary to accomodate the 15cc gasser, i most likely will have to increase the thickness of the firewall , i may even add 1mm ply to the sides back to the next former back from the nose gear but untill the plans arrive they are only my thoughts at present.
Of all the planes i have built over the years this one is special as years ago when i was a young bloke i saw a kit of the BNT in a hobby shop in Sydney but the size of it put me off as i only had a small car at that time so i purchased something else but i really wanted that plane as i loved it's shape and size, I am just so gratefull that the plans for this aircraft are still available and i know i will treasure mine. Bud Nosen was a respected designer in his day and i am thrilled after all these years to finaly have one of his aircraft in my hanger.
Tim.

Well now it's a big wonderful world - nice to hear from you ... I have a 15cc on the smaller tri-pacer if you look back at the pictures -you are going about this so perfectly -really on the right track -I have not finished my firewall area yet but it has been set up for the larger engine -I think it will be so close you might be able to beef up the firewall with a piece of ply and some 1/2 balsa or basswood sticks behind it - I really need to get back to building and post some new pictures / but I work too much this time of year ...I was in love with the Bud Nosen Trainer when I saw the add 1980's in a r/c mag. but even then the main gear and the tail looked out of sorts to me - it is fun building it from plans now -like going back in time with all the new engines and batteries & parts ....talk at you again ...later

The airplane is on a weight loss diet -I have taken the metal parts on a grinder and rounded corners and to about 1/2 the thickness -all bolts and screws have been shortened -holes have been drilled in the hardwood -and some wood has been removed or sanded to about 1/2 the size of it was ...The nose gear is getting a metal reduction treatment now ...I had over built the airframe and - now correcting it ....with lots more holes and sanding coming .... The tires and rims - are next to go -earthway spreaders have the plastic rims and tires that I want and will get them in the spring ... it's a makeover rebuild - the engine mount has to be lowered for the new engine - no room for the bottom bolts more to come -Happy New Year

Kinda makes you sick, doesn't it?
I sanded off 2 pounds of paint and epoxy on one of my planes, allowing me to remove 2 pounds of nose weight........4 pound weight loss ......... so far.

Yes , it's been a long time -and I still love my airplane - the world of R/C has changed in that time frame -lipo batteries -2.4 radio systems -Engines -cameras for R/C -I now have a usb port in the airplane -a mah meter on the control panel -AND it's all good stuff -no styrofoam here ...next week the aircraft gets a trailer -and the moral of the story is it may take 5 years but we are getting somewhere ....[img][/img]how time flies - not getting older just better - and on and on we go .....more to come -thank you ,for being here for so long -we out last a lot .....
