Took mine out for a shake down....

Eflite Power 110, Castle Creations 120HV v2 ESC, Thunderpower 5000Mah 65c batterys(one 5 and one 4 for 9 in series), Xoar 18-10 prop, Dubro 6" balloon tires at zero pressure. I have my GoPro slung just aft of the gear.

I have since removed the 8 oz of lead from the motor mount on my Hanger 9 1/4 J-3 Cub. I am running the DLE 20 with a custom Jtec muffler and the 6 volt nicad 2400 pack is stuffed under the floor up front below the fuel tank.
Balances just right @ 4 1/2" back and flys great.

Getting a little too cool here in SW Michigan for float flying, so removed the floats and installed landing gear and tailwheel. DLE-30 for power and Dave Patrick Super Cub cowl via Fiberglass Specialties on the business end. Hoping for a maiden maybe this weekend.

Recovered with Solartex and painted with Rustoleum rattle-can paint.

Can you take some pictures of the throttle arm and choke connections with the cowl removed. Also, did you have to move the fuel tank rearward any to accomodate the throttle arm or choke connection? I am trying to decide between the DLE 20 and the Zenoah 20ei. Thanks.

I have a first release version of the Hanger 9 PNP with a Zenoah Engine. There are 2 main problems that are being worked out.
#1 is the electronic ignition module. We I flew it it would cut out in flight after a minute or so for a second or two and then back on. It would never do it on the ground. After all kinds of email and options that were explored I finally removed it and sent it in to Horizon for a replacement. What I noticed about the mounting of the module was interesting. Contrary to what the book said the module was mounted with the epoxy side near the firewall. According to the book that was the only way you were NOT supposed to mount it. I informed Hanger 9 of this as well. When I received the new module and mounded it as the Zenoah manual indicated it has ran flawlessly. I suspect that the original install cause the module to overheat and that was causing the intermitted short.

#2 is the landing gear is so weak that it has spread out so far that I have to be careful not to let the prop hit the ground on landing. Not sure why the springs are so weak (cheap metal) but I have replace them. I still get bent wheels after 4-5 flights. I see that some have installed O-rings. Is that the best way to go?

Here are a couple of pic's w/the Dle 20. I drilled a small hole in the cowl for the choke rod to go through to thread into the dubro clevis. You can see the nylon tie wraps holding the 8 oz lead weights on the frame. I have since removed the lead weights as they are not needed. I have also put a small black sleeve on the choke pull wire end and touched up the drill marks which you see in the hole in cowl.

Help me out here....what is holding the o-rings to the landing gear? Did you drill a hole through the LG?

The hex nuts are already welded to the landing gear individual struts. The struts are 2 pieces per side and the tubes slide into each other. You just bolt in a 4/40 bolt the correct length to hold the spacers and washers; then wrap the o'rings around the washers, at least 2 per side.
It is a very easy fix. It then operates like the Robart's Cub gear.

Finally tried my Cub on floats today. Absolutely no problems. Need to keep a little more airspeed when attempting to flair, but other than that, no problems.

Held a little "Cub" event at our field this past Sunday. I'm on the far left, my two Cubs, Army Cub and blue/orange Franken-Cub nearest the camera. Also attached is a You-Tube video of three of the four Cubs landing after a 4-airplane flight. My son was flying the Army Cub, I flew Franken-Cub.

Just keep a little more airspeed when landing with the floats. They do create a lot of drag. Also, the water rudder servo arm needs to be short. The water rudders are VERY effective and the less movement you have at takeoff speed, the better. Save high-rate on the rudder/water rudders for taxi.

The plane flys much more sedate with floats. Everything is toned down. I spent most of the flight sitting on a log next to the shore.

I haven't had a chance to read this entire thread so bear with me if it has. Wil lthe new DLE-35 with the rear exhaust fit inside the cowl? My real concern is if the engine is too long to fit inside the cowl without moving the firewall.

Lifer, thanks for the advice for float flying. I didn't get a chance to try it but will definitely be hitting it next spring.

Also, I just bought the larger Du-Bro Cub tires....man do they look better. I can't wait to fly it with them.

Got a couple more flights in today at our club Polar Bear event. It was fun making soft field takeoffs and landings in the snow. Those big tires sure help

Try the air filled Dubro 6 inch tires. The best aftermarket addition one can make on the plane. Very scale and it will save your stock gear springs. I have many flights on my stock gear with the stock springs with no hint of stretch due to the very forgiving nature of the low pressure tires.

I've had the dubro 6" wheel and o-rings on the stock landing gear for two years now. No problems at all with a lot of flights.

This is virtually unrelated but I happened upon the older red H9 Super Cub with a Saito FA-125.  I acquired it from a deceased club member but I'm moving and can't bring it with me.  Anyone know approximately how much it is worth fitted with the 125?  There are 3 Futaba S3010's in it for (rudder and ailerons) with S3004's elsewhere.  Runs on a R617FS FASST receiver and a 7C transmitter.  Located in the Ohio area...if interested PM me but just curious on the value, not really experienced enough to know.  Everything is new, never flown.
