RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
I have been looking for a 4-bladed prop that won't break the budget. I knew that Biela makes some 4-bladed Mustang props but when I checked a few months ago, they didn't have it in the size I wanted.
Well, I now have the size I need for the ZDZ80 - Biela 4-Bladed 23X10 Mustang prop. I am now waiting for a custom cut spinner. I am waiting for the weather to clear up to maiden my Mustang. I will maiden it with the 2 blade prop I have on it. I can't wait to see her with the 4-blade on her!

Ihave been running a G45 in my P-51 for the last 6 years and it is one of the finest flying warbirds at our field. I swing a 19-10 Xoar prop. I believe this to be the best prop for this motor in a warbird. I am sure it pulls it along at a pace of 110+ mph. All up weight is about 25 pounds. She has nearly 500 flights on her and still going strong. Still, the same, stockmotor.

Hey CR.
Question for you. Since you have so much time on this engine, I was wondering how you keep it running so good. How do you store it for the winter? Do you run some oil thru it or what? I am just wondering how you maintain it during the down times?
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Thunder for the info, that is good to know! Sounds like these gas engines as a whole, are bullet proof.
Thanks,
Mike

I also run 100% gas in mine. (no ethanol) Luckly I have an old "mom and pop" store near my house that won't upgrade their pump for the Ethanol. So they still get The "good stuff".
Most all marinas will have real gas also.

Agreed. My Zenoahs hang in my garage all winter. I do not do anything special to them except keep them well tuned and use penzoil oil mixed 40:1. I also use AVGAS for fuel. It's cleaner, more stable, and doesn't make your hands stink all day. I also rebuild the carb every 2 years wether it needs it or not. This is cheap insurance to keep the diaphragm pump functioning as it should. Plus a good cleaning then never hurts. Zenoahs, You gotta love em, they run like Swiss watches!

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
Bad deal today. I was coming in for a pass and before i could reach the runway it dead sticked. I thought i had plenty speed and hieght to make it. I put the wheels down and kept it level with no flaps or up elev. Maybe a pinch of down to keep my speed up. Well, i misjudged it, and didn`t make the runway. It broke both struts which made them flip back and puncture both undersides of the wing. Smashed the inside of the air intake and bent the muffler. The Robarts broke off at the base but it looks like it did not harm the mounts at all. I had an old set that i used the tubes off of and already fixed that. This was the fourth flight. The engine ran good but was a little rich. It is a 50cc SV-50. I don`t know if i can trust the engine now. Warbirds and dead sticks suck. Not much you can do. Should have picked up the gear! ? Maybe?

Here is the Biela website:
http://www.smigla.com/english/scale.html
If you see a prop you like, you can contact aircraftinternational.com to see if they stock the prop you need.

Valve Floater...sorry to see your mishap. It happens.
Second thoughts about the gear up or down? Ya I hear you...but we have our fingers trained to flip the gear switch any time we want to land. Also you were smart enought to leave the flaps up with a dead stick also. Something I learned the hard way some years ago with my first TF Mustang. Takes power to land with full flaps...yes!

Thanks Mx240.
I am in the process of repair now. Had some fracture cracks thoughout the inner sections of the wing. Wing is done now.
The thing that i noticed is that my mains do not lock in the up position. May have just noticed this. Only had 4 flights on used plane. This doesn`t seem important because when the pressure is around 80lbs they stay up nicely and are quite snug and should not fall open during flight. It locks down good for landing. I never let my pressure get down low. Is it that lock down landing position is most important? Do yall think i should worry about this. The worst it can do is drop open an little if i pull some serious G`s but i won`t.
Thoughts?

I used model master acrylic green zinc chromate, and I like the way it turned out. I posted pics on page 114 of this thread. I am by no means an authority though.
