Grumman F9F-8 Cougar
Hi guys!
I am still collecting documentation of the Cougar, before I will start to build on. The last couple of weeks I was browsing the internet to see if there is any F9F-8 out there to get pictures. I am looking for a grey and white colour-scheme, with the "regular" nose, not the photo-recon one. I really like the one from Singapore, flown on TopGun.
Does anyone of you know a museum/airfield in the U.S. where I can find one? Or does someone have a set of useful pictures? Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
David

Go to NAS Pensacola Wings of Gold Museum. It may not be grey, but it is Navy. Also, visit www.pwam.org/f9f8coug.htm
I haven't been the the Air and Space Museum near Dulles IAP, Washington, DC, but I don't doubt there is one there as well.

RE: Grumman F9F-8 Cougar
Thank you!
I spent a couple hours on web-research. There are just 4 grey Cougars I found. Three in the USA all stored outside. Patuxent, Pima and Pensacola. And one with red stripes in Korea. Well, I keep searching, if someone has anymore information, I would be happy to know.

David,
I have climbed all over the one at Patuxent River....measuring and photographing. It is in pretty rough shape with lots of corrosion. There is a cast resin kit available from:http://fishermodels.com that is pretty accurate, and I believe they have some documentation with it as well. I love this airplane too and hope to build one at some point. Damn work keeps getting in the way.

Hi Jeff!
Thank you for your information. They do look good, don't they? I have parts for a wooden Cougar in the work-shop, but time is the limiting factor. That's why I will go the fiberglass-way with an Airworld-kit.

Hi Jetster,
I also have the Palmer plans but I guess it is a little small for a P-120, so I am thinking to enlarge the plans at 1:5 scale, the same size of the Skymaster one, so I can get the canopy.
BTW I am very interested in your comments about the maiden to take a decision. Thanks in advance.

The Airworld one needs some work to be scale, quite a lot is wrong! I spent ages looking at the Cougar and have some books. The Derjet version I was flying yesterday is closer to scale

RE: Grumman F9F-8 Cougar
Mr Matt, the fuse part of the plans are good, you need to beef up the wing tubes, the wing and stab part of the plane needs a lot of work,as in parts not fitting, parts wrong size ect. I cut my own parts because so much has to be changed for turbine power, but when done it has a very scale look and with ready to fly weight of 24lb.less fuel, it should fly well,I have yet to fly mine,It looks like next year now to much going on,when I do I will post results, jetster
