It's a great plane, although it could use more power. I have about 60 flights with her, I would recommend going for a more powerful setup, for examplea 10 blade 70 mm fan and a Turnigy L 2855-2800 Kv http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=22069.

Yes the nose gear wire needs changing and all three retract servos are incorrectly connected at the outermost servo horn hole,which gives too much throw, so theservos were buzzing all the time. I reduced the throw by moving down one hole and no more buzzing. Overall, the retract setup is rather weak.

The plane has a characteristic wobble on take off. Nothing to be worried about, it won't stall.CG has to be in the right place, I land it in 50 feet to a full stop, nose high cutting power completely just before touchdown.

I forgot to mention that you need a very good 4s battery. I have 2 older ones that can barely get the plane off the ground. I am flying now with a 2200 mAh4SNanotech 65-130C which does the job. In fact, the best solutionwould be to switch to a 5S lightweight battery, no more than 1800 mAh. This would solve all power problems.

Make that 10 blade 70 mm fan and a Turnigy L 2855-2100 Kv or 2300Kv with a 5S battery. From what I've read, the Turnigy L 2855-2800 Kv might burn out.

+1 on this! CS10 draws more amps than 5 or 6 bladers. 1800-2100kv for 6S and 2300kv for 5S!

Before my last flight with the XB-70 this week, I replaced the stock motor with a HK2839 EFD outrunner 2800 kv motor. I had already replaced the sextrified exhaustswith a single straight tube (see pictures in previous posts). This time,I tapered it toward the back so that the circumference of the flattened oval was 8.75 inches, asa compared with 9.25 for the outside diameter of the fan, which means the exhaust diameter is 94.5% of the fan diameter, but somewhat flattened. I flew it with a 2200 4S battery. At last, I got some real performance, both in power and in speed.

I still want to use the CS 10 blade fan and Turnigy L-2855. Can you answer my question above?

you can split the difference between the high amp draw of a 10 blade and the not so great sounding 5 blade fan by using the AEO 8 blade rotors. I get great sound with a moderate amp draw.

Well now I own an XB-70 so here we go:

Easy build which I must say is the second time I had to assemble a jet or airplane (Phase 3 U2 was very easy) but after getting everything together what threw me for a loop was the instructions did not say what leeds go to where! All plugs are numbered which is great but nowhere did I find in the instructions what each plug goes too! So I had to plug in one thing at a time and test it..

OH YEAH..one more gripe

The aileron linkage was too short to use by a clear 2 inches - had to go to the local Hobbyshop to buy two rods.

Now don't laugh but I own a DX5e transmitter with a Orange RX 610 - oddly enough I was able to use channel 2 (trainer switch) to make the landing gear raise and lower and since this model does not have
a rudder that is usable, I hooked up steering on rudder. Now where I was scratching my head was the ailerons had two plugs so I placed one in Aileron and the other at elevator and then turned on mixing.
This gave me the elevator function for both sides and Aileron as well. So I ahve tested the plane on the ground but I will not use this radio for this jet due to limitations and really no programming I can do which would help me out with the XB-70. The CG is said to be at 455 from the rear of the wing - yes I said the rear of the wing edge so I will check this out later today and continue with this review but I can say you can hear this plane very clearly since it's LOUD and have a large amount of thrust to what I can almost hover off the floor!!!!!

You do need to adjust the landing gear so it stops buzzing so make sure you do it..outside of that my local hobbyshop dropped what they were doing and gawked at the plane and said "WOW an XB-70!"
I had another person ask if that was a Concord - with me mentally slapping them. ;-) So there you go for now - hopefully I can get a break in weather and get to fly this beast.

Steve do you have a gyro in your plane?

If so (for anybody who owns one) how well does it fly with a gyro?

It flies quite well without a gyro. Installing a gyro on a plane with elevons may be problematical. You may wish to consider the Eagle tree flight flight stabilizer if you absolutely want a gyro. The main problem on this plane is the retract system. Although I flew two seasons without breaking the landing gear, one moderately harsh crosswind landing broke both main gears. Also the servo throw has to be reduced as I posted earlier, otherwise the servos will buzz and possibly burn out. I am planning to replace the gear with Hobbyking ones, a bit heavier but much stronger.http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=12954 . Also, I added strapping tape( the kind with fibres inside) from Dollard Store on the bottom of the fuselageall the way to the front intaketo prevent breakage. It is one of my favorite planes to fly.

Interesting about the landing gear, when I first powered it up I got the buzzing until I adjusted the landing gear from servo, which it still needs a shim placed between the servo and wall to keep it from moving. Out side of this it seems strong but I will continue testing it first. What Radio are you using right now and what settings are you using?

At the moment I own a DX5e set with 70% throws - which I rather have a DX6i to fly this plane but do you think I need the extra programming for now or not?

I fly it with a cheap 6 channel Hobbyking radio, no dual rate or exponential, I personally like to keep it sensitive,some folks may prefer to have dual rate or exponential but any other programming is not essential.

Where did you put the CG for the XB-70?

The manual points to 455mm (45.5cm) or 17.91 inches..


Never flew a delta before so I want to know if tail heavy is good or slightly nose heavy good?

Never fly a delta tail heavy. It will stall without warning. Nose heavy, it will just land faster, harder on the landing gear. CG as indicated should be fine.

Yo, I will answer you soon. Did not have a chance to fly or look at forums since last fall. Completely reworked the Val, 5 cell battery, new motor, 60 C ESC and electric retracts. Will check throws for you and get back to you.

Here are the settings on my XB-70:

The flighttrim is 1/8 up on the right elevon and 3/32 up on the left elevon.

Full deflection for the both right and left elevon is 1 inch up, and 3/4 inch down.

This works on my plane and is not overly sensitive. You have to test it on your plane to find out what works best for you.

As I mentioned before, I do not use dual rates or exponential, but I mostly fly it straight and level, no loops, rolls and other aerobatics.
