when you say deflection measured inside. Is that the gap between the trailing edge and leading edge of the surface??

Measured on the trailing edge, see attached picture.

Please keep on posting in the Futura 1.9 thread to avoid double questions & answers.

Have a small issue, maybe someone can help. Burned out two flap servos setting up the throws. had an amp meter in line so not sure why this happened. No binding was evident. I did notice that when i slowed the servos down the one side started jittering a bit, could this be an issue. Checked my voltages all 5.7 volts ,,,and yes they are all HV servos in the jet. Everything runs through a Power bOX COCKPIT..I have both servos running through independent channels, maybe i should run these through a matched channel and do the setup totally from the power box,,,,Life packs x 2 .
I have now changed both servos for JR 8711 a bit of an over kill but its what i have lying around. before i start setting up again,,,any tip, tricks etc. Is there any chance that the up/down/offset setting on the 14 MZ could have down this. I pretty sure my setup was good, no sub trim , EP all 100% with no binding....I'm a bit stumped.

regards

Gary.

Servos fried during your setup moments. Digital servos are very sensitive to obstructions or being stuck against their wish & in seconds they are wasted. You must have had them stuck against any other surface while setting them & this is the result! RIP

somehow don't think this is the case opposite servo is setup identical for obvious reasons, been doing this a while and am very much aware of servos binding etc, reason why I always use a ammeter in line . Think maybe it was just its time RIP..... Good thing about this is that it happened on the ground and not in the air. Something I also find strange in the design of the Power Box product is the fact that that specific channel wasn't switched off to prevent something like a short progressing to where the whole system is draw down causing one to loose an aircraft.

Hi guys, my 1.9 Futura should be ready to go soon, just some plumbing to do. See pics. Has any one flown with CoG further back than the 10mm specified?

Hi Paul,

Gotta say wow to that chrome!!

I had Mclaren's paint guy spray my SM Viperjet about 3 yrs ago in the team colours and whilst the chrome back then was impressive it wasn't as bright as that!! What product is it? I'm assuming with the username 'printbig' and checking your website it's vinyl? Did you apply it? Trickier to work with chrome vinyl than normal vinyl?

Hi Mark
Its all Vinyl, the chrome is not a genuine wrap material so took quite some dooing and the finish isnt perfect. And yes did it all myself, Didn't want to paint yet perhaps next season if I still have it I may remove the SAV, and do a new paint or SAV scheme.

Hi Paul

10mm behind the wing tube is way to nose heavy and you will run out of elevator authority on landing, I would suggest 20mm behind the wing tube for your first flight and then adjust it from there, I am now at 27mm behind the wing tube and that is the sweet spot for me.
Check the thread (1.9M Futura build pics) and you will see all the guys with the small Futura have moved their c/g back.

Thank you Neil, I was hoping some one would say that as I realy did not want to migrate any more weight in the nose its already full of cells, I am aiming for around 20mm rear of the wing tube and start from there.

I fly from a grass strip not overly long so a heavy nose would be a hinderance getting out and slowing it down when comming back.

Thanks again Neil.

Dual Expo

Elevator +25mm -16mm 100% +35%
Hi all,

Have a question to ask and hope to get some advice.

I am in the process of building my 1.9m Futura. I checked my elevators. It will only move 25mm up and 15mm down without binding. Beyond that amount of travel will not be possible unless I sand and widen the gap between the elevator and the stab (as in pic).

With my current setup, I would be able to meet the recommended elevator throw as above. But can i find out is this the high dual rate setting? If such, what would be the low setting?

Or should I widen the elevator/stabilizer gap to get more throw??

Thanks.

Isaac

25 up and 15 down then you are good. That is high and what you will want to fly with.
I used 35% expo on up and little less on down because it uses a bit of down to hold inverted. This way you don't have to catch it will rolling inverted.

How does the electron gear fit. Especially the nosegear. Can you post some pictures about gear installation. Nice paint scheme.

Default RE: Tomahawk Futura Build Thread

No issues installing the nose gear as per the pictures. Had to install to hardwood inserts on either side as the Tomahawk retracts are slightly wider. Once that is done shim the front to bolts with 3 mm shims to bring the nose wheel into the fuzz as it sticks out a bit. The nose wheel retract comes with a 6mm pin for the Oleo, the hole on the oleo is 8mm, so installed a bushing OD 8mm ID 6mm and pinned it in place. For the wing it was the same issue here i made up to 2mm l profile aluminum plates as a spacer, no other adjustments necessary. Sorry both Oleo legs on the main gear had to be filed down slightly on the sides as its slightly wider than the retract mechanism. Just waiting on the Electron Brakes which should be here later in the week. One last thing of interest. Cycled the retracts 10 times, battery installed is a 1800 2 cell Lipo 25 c. Pack took 155 mha when re-charged. Total weight saving 250 Grams from Pneumatics to Electron ER 40. Also of interest they make the ER 50 which some guys are using on the 2m Futura.

regards

Gary

Maybe it's just me, but things gets complicated here when the 1.9m Futura is referenced here, and the thread started with the 2,5m futura, not easy to understand whats what...
There are threads on the 1.9m as well, maybe it would be a little easier if things were seperated ??
Would hate to see anyone trying to stuff the Electron retracts in the 2.5meter
